always sick

hi,
I'm a 42 year old male.
I quit smoking about 5 1/2 years ago, I was a very heavy smoker (3+ packs) and it was very hard.
I put on some weight right after, and had lots of sweats and shakes.
However, the weight continued to pack on for a few years, and I was really feeling bad. I was sick all the time, very tired, had rings under my eyes, had trouble sleeping, and was very irritable.

My doctors seemed to agree that it was blowback from the smoking, or some kind of depression.
Then I started getting daily migraines and started to get really concerned.

I had a CT scan that came back normal, as well as sever blood tests that just showed some elevated cholesterol.

Then, I found a doctor that did a blood test, but this was the first one that decided to test thyroid as well.

My TSH was 138. I was dignosed Severe Hypothyroid from Hashimoto's

Over the last 8 months they have slowly brought my TSH down to 1.2 (just since the last couple months).
My blood pressure immediately normalized, and my heart rate is now normal as well. And I do have more energy. My weight is very slowly coming down.

There was a period of about 2 weeks when it was at about  3.0 that I felt really good, my head was clear and I had tons of energy.

But now I am sick all the time - I've had 2 colds, a stomach flu, a mild ear and eye infection in the last 2 1/2 months. Mind you, I have a 3 1/2 year old child who brings stuff home, but these things all hit me really hard. I slept for about 30 hours straight to break the fevers on my colds.

I also sweat quite alot, just the smallest activities like bending over and tieing my shoes can make me sweat.

I can't help but feel there's more at work here and that running on empty so long with TSH levels that high might have done some more extensive damage.

In terms of extensive damage, replacing thyroid hormone reverses this -- but with the severe and potentilally prolonged thyroid deficiency it may take over a year to get back to "normal"

Being sick all the time and the sweating are not typical of most hashimoto's - so would consider asking your doctor about any additional testing, keeping in mind that hashimoto's is an autoimmune disease and there is a slight increased risk of developing other autoimmune problems.  Also may want to have testosterone checked.
