endocrine problem?

I have been having GI symptoms lately and wonder if maybe it's an endocrine problem if it's not a GI issue directly. I have lost 9 lbs. in the last month, have almost zero appetite, and am frequently nauseated. I sometimes vomit, and when I do, though, it doesn't feel acidic and burn my mouth/throat like it used to. I also bloat heavily after eating a normal-sized meal and then feel nauseated. I also have problems with reoccuring diarrhea and/or constipation.

My internist was of no help in diagnosing the problem and simply suggested I am "backed up." Another doctor sent me to be checked for gallstones, but the ultrasound didn't find any.

Could this be an endocrine problem? ANy insight?

It's not likely endocrine, but testing thyroid and cortisol levels would be appropriate.

I do have a diagnosis of gastroparesis, I've had 2 failed gastric emptying studies.  I also had an upper endoscopy, the first 4 years ago and most recently in Jan.  during this run.  With gastroparesis they put me on a drug called reglan (on an as needed bases)  I had been doing fine on it and then boom I developed these endocrine issues.  They think some of it may be due to the drug.  So now I am off the reglan and getting more bloodwork tommorrow.  it is not a benign drug!  I'm only 38!

Oh gosh, that sounds awful, Sue! If my new GI doc doesn't find anything in my next few tests, I'll ask to check endocrine issues. I was wondering if I was crazy for thinking it might be endocrine. Good luck to you- I hope they figure out your symptoms soon.

And Totie, I am now scheduled for a HIDA scan on Tuesday to rule out gallbladder functionality. I'm being tested for celiac disease as well, and my gastroenterologist also thinks it might be gastroparesis, so I'm getting an endoscopy done to rule out ulcers, etc., and then on to a stomach output test. Good times! I mean geez, I'm only 28 and feel like I'm going on 80!

I have been feeling like that for over 2 months now.  They have done an upper endoscopy, CT scan of the abdomen and MRI b/c they found a benign lesion on my liver during the CT scan.  I started to notice my symptoms were cooinciding heavily with my menstral cycle.  My doctor checked some hormone levels and low and behold there were abnormalities.  My prolactin is 165, normal isn't above 29 and my cortisol is high as well.  I just had a brain MRI to r/o a pituitary lesion/tumor.  They did not find one....but now the endocrinologist is working this whole this up.... I feel for you because this is awful.

My sister had the same problems as you describe. Hers turned out to be her gallbladder. They had to remove it, and she feels like a million bucks. Have they looked into that, not the gallstones, but the gallbladder?
