I have Graves' disease and had the radioactive iodine treatment at the end of July '07 and have been taking112mcg of levoxyl since September '07 and I have been noticing that my hair has been falling out quite a bit and I want to know if that is normal and how long will this last?  it is very scary to wash your hair and see so much hair fall out, any answers would be appreiciated!!  thanks

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
usually this gets better in 2-3 months and you will not go bald.

Hi guys,

I have started loosing my hair after I started taking thyroid medications and still am losing my hair using .125 synthroid. My doctor ran some tests and found my testosterone levels extremely high. Then as a PhD student, I did some research on my own and found medical articles that state that  high testosterone levels in females is the number one hair loss reason. I believe at this stage  synthroid somehow impacts how my body produces hormones..Ask your doctor to also check your testosterone levels as a possible cause of hair loss.

This should subside and you won't go bald all though at times it seems you might, on the synthroid web page it says hair loss is a side effect that will go away, also hyper or hypo can cause some hair loss.
