heterogeneous gland

I have antibodies for Hashimoto disorder and recently had a thyroid ultrasound.  The results show a diffusely
heterogeneous gland and I don't know what that is.  Could you explain?  All of my thyroid functions are normal when tested.   I do feel symptomatic - tired, hair thinning, weight gain.

Would test TPO antibody, if positive and TSH > 3 would consider levothyroxine.

There are several nodules on my thyroid gland also and it is enlarged.
The T4 and Tsh are normal.  Are there any other tests that should be done.
There was a biopsy done on the largest nodule and it was benign.

This is a sign of inflammation within the thyroid due to hashimoto's -- it is a very typical finding.  Would test TSH and given the symptoms, consider levothyroxine therapy if the TSH is elevated (>3).
