hyperthyroid symptoms

Is it possible to have all the symptoms of hyperthyroidism without labs reflecting it? Ive had symptoms for about 9 months have had thyroid panel several times always negative , rapid heartrate without cause had complete cardiac workup senstitive to cold / heat swelling of nodes in my neck for 3 months to which I had surgery yesterdayand biopsy for a mass located in back of throat / base of tongue / between vocal cords. Ive been seen by cadiologist, rheumatogist rule out autoimmune disease, and ENT. Forgot to mention still with palpitations weight loss of 7 lbs in 1 month its a stuggle to keep weight on. Last year wt was 137 now 122. Labs not indicating any autoimmune so far. Swallowing diffculties with esophageal spasms as well. Please email me. Thankyou.

"thyroid symptoms" are nonspecific, so yes you can have "all the symptoms" and not have thyroid diseae.  The labs are much more accurate.  If not showing hyperthyroidism (low TSH and normal-high T4) then not likely thyroid related.  Would work with GI specialist on spasms and weight loss.

I have very less tolerance over cold and continuous constipation and throat a bit swollen, when consulted a doctor he reffered us to ENT after approaching him I got to know that I might have < a href="http://www.***************.***/general-health/do-you-have-thyroid-problems-how-to-tell-if-you-have-thyroid-problems" and have "Thyroid Goiter". Can you please explain me what causes this and how. Is it a contagious disease and how can it be operated.

Hello Dr. Lupo,

I'm 55 years old and never had a serious illness (I was a bicyclist for many years) until 7 weeks ago when I was found to have renial retention that was determined to be due to the bladder sphincter muscle not opening sufficiently for many weeks (painful starting), and after I was drained of a large amount of urine my kidneys, thank the Lord, returned to normal, however, on returning to work everyone (myself included) noted how thin I looked, and in fact in just that 2 week period I had lost 20-25 pounds, per my physican's scale!

Last week I visited a physician who's sub-specialty is endocrynology (his specialty is Internal Medicine), and after a long list of blood tests everything looked normal, except for a high cortisol level (22) and elevated glucose (104) - after 7 weeks I'm still with a catheter and wonder if my irritability, various muscle pains, metallic taste in my mouth, difficulty sleeping and weight loss (which I haven't put back) is due to some type of thyroid problem that's also affecting my sphincter muscle (the TSH, T4 and T3 are all within normal limits) - my Mom had a thyroid problem later in life (deceased at age 66 due to a heart blockage).

Over the past seven weeks I've been to three urologists (the first one was assigned by the ER), the doctor mentioned earlier and my primary care physican, but so far they seem to be treating the only the symptom and not aiming for the actual problem - any advice would be greatly appreciated because they're convinced Flomax will help!  I'd be remiss to mention that the ER attending physician twice asked me, "Are you sure you weren't diagnosed with any disease?", and the second time he asked that unusual question it made me realize that perhaps he too sensed the retention problem was a symptom of something greater - any advice would be greatly appreciated because I've already had one serious catheter infection and am desparate to have it removed!

Thanks,

Frank

Dr. Lupo, I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago with Hashimoto's (my anti-bodies then were 175), and have not felt great since.  I have been taking 50mcg of Synthroid.  I went to my Dr's last week because I was having more heat intolerance/hot flashes, and my B/P is coming up,so I thought my TSH would be low, but it was 15! My Dr. told me to take 100mcg daily now.  I read somewhere that people with Hashi's can have heat intolerance as well as cold- I have both.  If I start doing any physical activity, such as vacuuming, or exercise- I produce heat a lot of heat and start sweating. My carpal tunnel is worse also, mostly when I am sleeping and when I wake up in the morning.  I also would like to know if maybe I have a parathyroid problem, but wouldn't that show up on my thyroid ultrasounds? My Dr. has never checked my PTH level.

hello Dr , I was diagnosed with thyroid trouble after a blood test 5 years ago, I did not get the results of the blood test, and the doctor never let me know i needed to be on thyroxine, I went back 2 weeks ago and she informed me that my levels were high, dont know what that meant as she never went into detail, anyhow after another blood test she put me on 100 mg of levothyroxine and it made me so ill, so went back and another doctor dropped it to 25 mg of Eltroxin and am not tolerating that either, I feel like my insides are shaking and my heart is pounding and i cant concentrate on anything because of the feelings. I take it in the morning 2 hours before any food or tea and just take it with water, I have tried cutting the tablet into quarter and the effects are not quite as bad but still not tolerable, what can i do now, any advice would be gratefull
