My problem is that I did not start to take the medicine as I'm too scared to put on more weight. As I understand when u start to take the medicine you put on weight, and more woun't do me any good. I do cut back on calories and walk everyday for 5km everyday. My biggest problem do I take the medisine .. if I don't will my condition get worst? any answers on that?
I was diagnosed with Graves Disease 2 months ago, I was experiencing terrifying rapid heart palpitations, night sweats, mood swings, also some weight loss which I was extremely happy about. Ive always been the type to watch my weight an I never like to get over a certain weight but since Ive been taking this Methamizole I have gained 10pds and Im also scared that I may gain more which is dreadful to me, I want to fight this thyroid condition so I cant stop taking the meds, Im currently trying to start a vegetarian lifestyle and kickboxing, zumba, or yoga at least 4x a week, I went to a weight loss doctor and got some phentermine but my doctor advised me not to take those. Hopefully cutting calories and exercising will stop the weight from packing on!
I have tested hyper for the last 2 months. Tsh 0.00. Free t3 t4 elevated. Labs were borderline before that. I have been yo yoing weight for last few years. Also 41 now so hormones prob all crazy. It's hard to lose weight with extreme hunger and fatigue Sometimes I wake up hungry and have to eat. Not to mention insomnia due to feeling wired and anxious. Not sleeping is known to cause wt gain. I wonder if it depends on how hyper of course everybody is different. I know I haven't been as active as I was due to fatigue and sob/ tachycardia. It's nice to know your not just crazy
Thanks Doc for the answer, my problem is that I did not start taking the medicine, so it is not from the medicine that I'm gaining weight, I'm too scared to gain more weight. As I can understand from reading forums with hyper you are suppose to lose weight like Jenny and not gaining. If I do take the medicine will my weight gain be more extreme?, or will the medicine balance something out? I do look after my calories intake, sorry for all these questions but I'm totally confuse of what to do. If I don't take the medicine, can my condition worse to that of cancer later on? I've got hart problems as well as this is running in the family so gaining weight is not going me ANY good. WHAT NOW?
Jenny sorry to hear from your problems it is so difficult how our bodies are doing total different things I really hope yours will get better.
Dancingal I hope someone can give us the answer's to this madness
Mercazole is a common thyroid-blocking medication for hyperthyroidism.
It will need to be adjusted to keep levels normal - so close followup (usually every 4-12 weeks) is important.
Weight gain occurs in some patients with hyperthyroidism, particularly as we bring the levels back to the normal range -- careful attention to calorie intake is very important.
