Hashimotos

I have been diagnosed with hashimotos and have a nodule on my thyroid. I have been suffering for 17 years with fatigue mental fog severe dry skin and hair with hair loss and tremendous weight gain in the past year and a half. I can't understand why I cant get a prescription for Synthroid but am offered mind altering antidepressants which I will not take. Please help me understand the thinking? I know my TSH levels must be within the "normal" range to have these dr.s sending me away with no prescription- but if my horrible symptoms that I have been living with for so long are very obviously due to my diagnosed Hashimotos then why not try it?

I have recently been informed that I have a 2MM nodule on the right side of my thyroid.  I am sceduled to have it biopsied in Sept.  My question is, Why have my labs come back normal for the past 10 years?  I have been asking for answers about all my symtoms and my Dr. has been doing all the blood work, it comes back in the normal range, when I finally insisted that a ultra sound be done, that is when the nodule was found.  I have a very strong family history of this (every female on the maternal side) and was told 10 years ago to have this checked.  Can this condition hide itself for so long, and should I worry about it being cancer???

With normal appearing labs, the symptoms may not be due to Hashi, but a trial of levothyroxine would be reasonable in many cases.
