Continual pain

Hello, I am a 48 year old woman who was diagonosed with Underactive Thyroid three years ago (although I know I had it for some time previous to this).  I have always been very active. Over the last two to three years I have delveloped aches/pains all over my body.  My neck cracks. Both my hands hurt alot and keep dropping things and knocking things over. I take strong Solpadol prescribed by the Dr. -to keep funtioning.  However, I find just walking a distance painful - my back hurts and my legs and feet.  I keep telling the GP how I am but get little response other than they keep increasing my dose of Thyroxine.  But this has not made any difference to how I feel. I struggle to function every day and want to stop the painkillers as I am concerned re. the long term affect they will have.  I struggle to exercise due to the pain.  I get depressed so tend to nibble food which does not help at all. Therefore I have put on alot of weight. Could Thyroid be the cause of this or something else?

If the TSH is within target range (usually 0.5-2.5), would look at other causes for the symptoms.

Have you been checked for Hyperparathyroidism?  Have they checked your blood calcium levels?  I have a underactive Thyroid, and take the sames meds as you, and lots of the same symptoms, and I had 2 parathyroid adenomas, it wasn't my thyroid.  Maybe a good Endocrinologist could help.  My PCP sent me to one, when he found the high blood calcium.  Hope this helps, Bella1950
