Enlarged Thyroid

I am a 25 yr. old male and recently visited my doctor because of a lump in the right side of my throat. I noticed this when I swallow and have had some difficulties swallowing. I had seen a doctor at least 7 yrs ago about the same lump and he wrote it of as just an enlarged gland and not to worry about it. So now I am worried. I had an ultrasound done and the findings are as follows:  Thyroid very asymmetric in appearance. Right lobe measures 4.9x1.8x1.7cm. No obvious focal mass but is quite enlarged and slightly heterogeneous. The isthmus is thick in the right side and thins towards the middle and the left side. Left lobe measures only 2.4x0.6x1cm in size and it contains a small 7mmx5mm cyst. My PCP had informed me that they really didn't find anything but my own review of the report has me worried. My TSH bloodwork came back in normal range. What does this mean?

i have several small nodules just had another ultrasound done on friday. got my results, the one they were concerned about is no longer visible, but have 2 new ones on the right side that are 0.2 cm. the nurse i spoke with said that the thyroid gland was enlarged by 6.5x2.1x1.9 what does this mean????

The R lobe is normal in size, the left is smaller -- this is not pathologic.  The cyst on the left is small and does not require biopsy.  It is possible the lump is not the asymmetric thyroid as the R lobe size is normal -- unless you have a high-lying thyroid (ie, higher in the neck) that makes it more prominent,   If very concerned, an ENT evaluation may be helpful.  The duration of 7 years is re-assuring that it is a benign lump.

I also have a lump on my right side.  Just went today for an ultrasound done.  Have to wait til tomorrow for the results.  I spoke to my coworker and he told me how his wife has had thyroid problems, but her medical doctor said it was all in range.  She finally went to another doctor who said there is a problem.  I stated to my coworker that my doctor was going to send me to an ear, nose and throat doctor.  He told me not to go see the ear nose and throat to go see an endcronologist they would be able to tell me more than my regular doc or anyone else.  I hope this works for you.
