Hashimoto-Weight problems 1

I am 20 years old and last year I was diagnosed with Hashimoto. It was by completely by chance. I remembered that when I was 14 my the school doctor told me that I had an enlarged thyroid, but then the GP just did the normal neck checking and said it there was nth wrong with my thyroid.I am not sure whether all this time I had Hashimoto or some prolonged transient stage of hypothyroidism which eventually lead to Hashimto. The lab reports showed decreased TSH when I asked for those tests by chance so the endocrinologist suggested that the disease had not progressed for long, it was just the start with the emptying of all the thyroid . However, I have always had problems with losing weight,ALWAYS and of course the genetic makeup allows  some of us to have a more active metabolism, but I always wonder whether for me is that only that or hypothyroidism has sth to do with it during all these years.
I take 50mg L-thyroxine since the beginning and the last time the lab reports showed very low TSH level but ok T4(dont remember exact values). The problem is that it is still very difficult for me to lose weight. I mean I do not do that much of sports, running 2-3 times per week for 20-30 min but I am very careful with my dietary intake, only 1 slice of bread per day, little meal in the evening, try to avoid sweets, buy juices with low calories and little sugar and in general it seems that compared to the rest of my friends I am very balanced with my diet but somehow I gain weight extremely easy.

I do wish a group of Doctor - men and women in the field of science and medicine would get together and see, just see if weight gain and thyroid medications go hand in hand.  Dr. Lupo has said, as he did just now, that  "Weight problems are very common -- and more often than NOT, unrelated to one having hypothyroidism."  I think that BS.

And I've been with out 1/2 of my thyroid since 1996.  I'm active, do not over indulge in high calory foods and have now put on almost 100 lbs.

I have had hypothyroidism for 15-20yrs and taking synthyroid or a form of but in the last 2 years I feel like my body is just falling apart.  I was also diagnosised with Fibromyalgia last year.  I have aches and pain everywhere.  I am taking Lyria and it does help but I felt so much mental confusion and fatigue that I felt it was the medication so the dosage was reduced.
I felt somehow it was thyroid and had a scan that revealed a 2cm nodule on the right side but at the same time have an enlarged nodule under right my ear.  Are these two things related? The endo doc did a biopsy last Thurs. on the thyroid nodule and have to wait 2 weeks for results. The endo doc is sending me to an ENT doc for the nodule under my ear.  The nodule under the ear at times is very sensitive and uncomfortable but in front of my ear.  That is how I found it.  The sensitivty at times is unbearable, a burning sensation.
I was also diagnosed with Hashimoto Thyroiditis from the lab work that was done.  High antibodies 335.  I started today with levothyroxin 0.112mcg and Cytomel 5mcg.
I have a question if this a true diagnosis or can this be a symptom of cancer too. I have so man questions and the doctors just push the answers around.  I understand that doctors don't have the answers and need to wait for the biopsy results but I am nervous and waiting is not fun.

Keeping the TSH in the target range (0.5-2.5) is recommended.  Weight problems are very common -- and more often than not, unrelated to one having hypothyroidism.

I am 18 years old and I have had Hashimotos for 8 years. I know how you feel about the trouble to lose weight. I brought the issue up to my dr and he changed my medication from the levothyroxine to levoxyl. Just the change in the medication made a difference for me. Some doctors say that the generic medication used to treat thyroid problems does not work as well as the name brand. Hope my little tid bit helps.
