what to expect from parathyroid surgery

hello dr ,
Your opinion is important to me , and hope you can answer.
I am having minimally invasive parathroid surgery soon..
Please tell me what to expect re soreness, pain, and the frequency of lab monitoring following the procedure.I have read such varied recuperation stories.....help~ any advise re anesthesia? I don't want to be sick afer the operation..also re pain meds?
I cannot get to Tampa... regarding that..Pleases reassure me that there are competent doctors in other places as well.
I apprecitate any information.. ALSO, what will help the scar to heal more smoothely and quickly.

How likely is it cancer in most cases?  I am already hypothryoid...or have hashimotos... and take synthroid.  I think I had the hyperparathyroid for about a yr or two.. but not sure...already have osteoperosis....no kidney stones, thank goodness...   appreciate a quick reply

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Cancer is very rare.  There are experienced surgeons elsewhere.  The anesthesia depends on the protocols used by the surgeon.  The recovery should be quick -- within a few days and most people have little pain.  We usually recheck labs in 6 weeks and if normal, then followup with primary MD.

your surgeon should be able to address all these issues as well in more detail for your particular case.
