I have subclinical hyperthyroidism with three hot nodules.  I had a very odd reaction to tapazole after taking it for about 10 weeks (very, very horible, burning chapped lips as well white spots all over my lips and burning in another region of my body). I also had a minor sore throat, tightness in my chest, etc.  I stopped tapazole and these symptoms started to get better (except the white spots which remained).  I was off of tapozol for about four weeks and hyperthyroid symptoms started all over again...horrible insomnia, tremors, heart palpitations, etc.  I started on PTU about four weeks ago and the terrible burning, chapped lips, etc. is starting again as well as chest tightness etc.   This is what is making me assume that it is in fact the medicine causing these side effects.  Is there somewhere I can consult to see if these effects can get much worse if I continue on the medicine?  Do you treat with natural protocols in the case of not being able to take the only two meds for hyperthyroid?  I really don't want RAI or surgery.   Thoughts?

I don't fully understand the background of this question.  IF not nursing and labs showing hyperthyroidism (Low TSH and high T4/T3) then an I-123 uptake/scan will help determine etiology -- cannot do if nursing!
