Hypothyroidism/missed periods

I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism last summer (2007) and have been taking different doses of synthroid (levothyroxin) since then.  Recently my doctor increased my dosage from 1.25 mcg to 1.37 mcg.   Normally when I have my period I have been known to start as early as 3 to 7 days, and I have anywhere from a light to really heavy flow.   I am now almost 2 weeks late having my period.   I am pretty sure I'm not pregnant since I had my tubes cut and burned after the birth of my 2nd child over 14 years ago.    I am somewhat worried about being 2 weeks late, but wanted to see if this was common for this condition.   I am planning on calling my doctor to see if this is normal.

Any information I can get will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.
Cheryl

Thyroid dysfunction may cause menstrual irregularities so would have the thyroid retested and also talk to your doctor about other possible causes.

Thanks for getting back with me, Dr. Lupo!!  I figure it could be a number of things, including the age factor (I'm 42).  I have been on this dosage (137 mcg) of levothyroxine for almost 5 weeks.  I will be calling my doctor's office and setting up an appt. for next week.

Thanks again!!
