you may be right - - but most overweight people do not have a thyroid problem. Hypothyroid patients need adequate thyroid hormone replacement - otherwise diet/exercise efforts are indeed more difficult. More research on thyroid hormone action and metabolism is underway, but new treatments/medications are not yet available.
I keep hearing that fact that thyroid and weight gain are not related... I think that you, in the medical field, REALLY need to start taking this seriously. I, too, have been gaining weight since having my thyroid taken out. 1996 - 125mcg thyroxin daily.
There is a link, you're (being the medical field) is just not seeing it.
It is a sensible connection. Metabolism controls weight. If you are slow you gain - High lose. Thyroid hormone controls metabolism so hense if your meds are not balanced your weight and energy to control the weight will change. Being a patient from Hyper storm to almost Hypo coma my weight has changed alot. Amougst other things. I find IBS and acid reflux an issue too. Low - IBS / High - acid. Hormones and metabolic rate changes in a monthly cycle even in non thyroid patients. Diseased thyroid patients have even a harder time controlling those changes each month especially at a hypo rate due to equally portions of meds each day. Has the medical field examined a patients weekly and view blood panels to see these changes? Some may need a variable med dosage through the month for optimal health.
Most weight gain is not thyroid related - even in thyroid patients. Armour is one way of treating hypothyroidism - it can be over-stimulating and some patients get anxiety, palpitations and tremors particularly if the dose is too high.
Hypothyroidism has many sympotms - would go to the following link to read more
