Ideal TSH for pregnancy

Dear Dr. Lupo,

My last TSH was 0.18 and my reproductive endo said that this was in the right range for conception. However, I have had no luck so far and am having irregular periods and ovulation. I am wondering if this could be related to my TSH number and if there is a preferred range for this in trying to conceive.

Thank you kindly for any advice,

I doubt that the ovulation is impacted significantly, but you could decrease the dose a little bit to bring the TSH up some to exclude that as a possible variable -- talk to your doctor about that option.

I am currently taking 100 mg of Synthroid and 7.5 mg of Cytomel per day (one pill in the AM, 1/2 pill in the evening.)

Do you think this level of TSH could be impacting my ovulation cycles or should we be looking elsewhere?

Thanks,

TSH of 0.18 is not typically associated with more difficulty coneiving.  Is this on thyroid medication or is your thyroid a little over-active on its own?

The target suggested range before and during pregancy is about 0.3-2.0, but we have recognized that a slighly low TSH is better than a slightly high one and we know that during the first part of pregnancy a TSH can be very low without problems.
