Focally there is a lymphoid component suggesting thyroiditis; the nodule may be a component of nodular Hashimotos thyroiditis. Features of papillary thyroid carcinoma are not evident. ...

Thanks so much for your response.  dont believe they have done a tpo antibody but did do TSH which was 3.45 and T4 Free which was 1.3.  is this still consistent with hashimotos.

Thanks again.  Go gators from a fellow UF grasuate!!!

Sounds like Hashimotos given the background lymphocytes (inflammatory cells). Would confirm with TPO antibody.  Nodules this size need to be closely evaluated -- consider sending slides to expert (Dr Massoll at U Arkansas or Dr Baloch at U Penn).

There is an entity called "hurthle lesion" -- which means FNA is predominately Hurthle cells and the only way to make sure it is not cancer is to remove it.  15-20% of these are cancer and surgery is the only  way to make definite diagnosis.  Usually background lymphocytes are not present in these lesions.
