Overactive Thyroid Causing Graves Disease

Hello,

I really need some help here. My mom has been running around to various drs for months now with no end in sight. She has Hyperthoroidism with Graves Disease. Her one eye is poping out of her socking with the other eye is seeing blurry and double vision. Her overactive thyroid is 61%, per let latest blood dest.

They NY Eye Infirmatory has not lots and lots of tests on her and says they cant do anything to her on the eye like surgery until her thyroid #s are low. The endroconologist gave her methimazole and took blood work b4 and after taking it and she said it was lowing her blood presssure etc and it wasnt working for her after taking it a couple months at i think 5mg a day. The endrocologist said there are only 2 prescriptions she can give my mom and the 2nd one will not do much either. To go to the NY Eye Infirmatory and they will take care of her. So its alot of back and forth!

What can we do who can she see if order to correct this thyroid? Shes been hitting dead ends with no solution in site and my moms thyroid and vision has been getting worse.

Please help! Thanks

the NY Eye Infirmatory gave her some kind of cream to put on her eye to reduce sweeling. how can she get her vision back and get back to normal. the meds are not working to decrease her overactive thyroid and the eye infirmatory is saying we cant do anything to the eye until the thyroid has been corrected. what dr do we go to next?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
If there is worsening vision, then in addition to the methimazole to normalize the thyroid, she may need steroid for the eye.  This can be given orally in most cases (ie, prednisone), but in some cases we do intravenous steroids.  Would talk to her doctors about this option.  If in doubt of the advice she is receiving, consider a second opinion.
