TPO Level

Hi,

I saw an endo at the suggestion of my OB/GYN. My lab results are below. The endo told me that I am fine and that I only need to lose weight to feel better. I am concerned about the TPO Ab being high. My doctor said that it is not that high and is probably nothing. Should I be concerned?

TSH 4.30 ref scale .350 - 4.500
Thyroxine (T4) 8.9 ref scale 4.5 - 12.0
T4, Free (Direct) 1.02 ref scale .061 -1.76
Thyroglobulin, Quantitative 1.3            Ref Range .5 - 55.0
Thyroid Stimulating Immunoglob  98      Ref Range 0 – 129
Thyroid Peroxidase (TPO) Ab    98       Ref Range  0 - 34

Thanks,
Dot

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Appears to be autoimmune thyroid disease (hashimoto's thyroiditis) with borderline high normal TSH suggesting perhaps early hypothyroidism.  Treatment will not likely promote weight loss in itself, but may help diet/exercise efforts be more effective and address other symptoms if present.

Thank you for your reply Dr. Lupo.

I know that I gained weight because I stopped working out. I stopped working out because I felt so tired and run down all the time and due to the muscle pain I have in my hip & shoulder. I developed psoriasis during this time and have started losing my hair. I saw the endocrinologist at my OB/GYNs urging because he suspected a thyroid problem. The endo says that my thyroid is fine and that I should lose weight if I want to feel better.

I guess I will look for another doctor. Thank you again for your help.
