TSH 150

Hello Dr.,
I am 24 years old and thyroid problems run in my family.  I have just gotten blood tests back (my first time ive been tested) and they are...
TSH is 150H
Thyroglobulin Antibodies  215H
Thyroid Peroxidase  577H

I am being sent to get an ultrasound tomorrow of my thyroid to make sure everything is okay there...

My question is in regards to the high level of TSH.  I am living in St. Thomas, USVI and was seen and diagnosed by a nurse praticioner here.

Should I seek a further opinion from a specialist considering my high TSH level (150H)?
I just want to make sure I am not going to have any further complications with it being so high and wanted to make sure that I am on the right path...

Also:  I am on Synthroid 50mg.  I am 5ft 4 and weigh about 190.

Thank you soo much for your help!!!

I had a nasty high TSH as well. 420 then 152. I'm also fairly young. Only 30. I suspect that the younger you are the more likely you are able to tolerate the symptons and this leads to extra high TSH levels.

Who knows. Good luck getting this under control.

Peace!

You have severe hypothyroidism due to Hashimoto's.  this is also likely causing the high cholesterol.  based on what you describe -you need a higher dose of synthroid (likely 100-125mcg / day ) .  The ultrsound may help identify any nodules, but a goiter (large thyroid) is expected with this history.  The key is getting on the proper dose of thyroid replacement medication.
