severe brainfog

I posted this a while ago in the thyroid forum. I wanted to get a doctor's advice on what I should do. Do you feel this is thyroid related?  I appreciate any advice you may have on this. Thank you.

"I can not take it anymore. My brain fog is so severe I can barely function. It lasts all day. I have no breaks from it. Its there when I wake up and it is there when I go to bed. Its there 24/7. It's like a mental cloud in my mind that I can not shake. I can not focus, concentrate or comprehend. I can not remember people that I know including close cousins and friends. I feel like I have amnesia. I can not understand what people are saying to me. I can not read books because I can not get past the first line. I can not think to myself, my brain is too foggy. I never can understand what people are saying to me. I always respond in the wrong way because I just don't get it. I can not live like this or function like a normal human being. I hate this thyroid mess. I can not go to school because I can not pass the test to get into grad school. Its so frustrating. When I went to take the test, I could not understand anything I was reading. It was not mentally registering to me. My job is suffering. I feel like Im sitting in front of my computer in a daze all day. I am always at a lost for words. I can not focus when I am driving. Its scary because I may get in an accident because I am not fully conscious of my surroundings. Sometimes I do not know how I make it home. I am very discouaged that this thing is not going to get any better. It has been a YEAR and not much has changed. My tsh went from 17 to 5.8 in three months. My meds were recently reduced from 10/5 alternating mg to 5mg a day. I am afraid that when my TSH gets around 1 or 2 and I am not going to feel better. If this brain fog goes not go away, I dont think I can make it. I can not live like this. Someone please help me. What should I do? "

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
The goal TSH is around 1 (as you mention)...this often helps with brain fog.  Not sure from the post the nature of your thyroid problem -- continue to work with the doctor to keep your levels stable and optimized -- this might help with the symptoms.

Hi..I can relate to your symptoms but they were due to carbon monoxide poisoning from a gas furnace that was not properly repaired.  But I can tell you that I got some major relief from a very good all round nutritional supplement.  There are many out there but after researching almost all of them I can recommend one or two: Reliv Classic has helped my GREATLY!! full multivitamin with other nutritional supportive ingredients in a food like powdered form..you have to mix with a juice you like.  some people don't like the taste but it's worth it..there are others I'm sure but this worked best for me.  You have to order it through someone by going to their website..they can put you in touch with a distributor in your area.  Hope this helps!

Hi,
Just letting you know that going to the doctor with 'brain fog' was how I figured out I have Hashimotos.  My TSH was normal, but I asked for T3, T4, reverse T3 and antibodies. They explained that Hashimotos is basically my autoimmune overfireing and attacking my thyroid, which affects its function.  IF you have Hashimotos the same  immune system overfiring can also attack other parts of the body sometimes needing other treatments as well eg Adrenals or whole Endocrine system.  Often people with Hashimotos test with Low Normal (or extremely high)  hormones (thyroid, testosterone, estrogen, progesterone and adrenals) as a result.  Bringing your hormones into optimum ranges can often achieve great results with fatigue, depression and difficulty losing weight etc  After battling this for 4 years and thinking I am losing my mind, I am finding light at the end of the tunnel.  I went to a compounding chemist site and found a doctor in my area who precribed them.  I figured this would at least find me a doctor who was 'up' on all of this info and believed it and would precribe what I needed.

Don't give up!  You are only one step away from health!  (finding the right medical professional for you). Educate your  self or ask friends for help!  Look up Hashimotos/Adrenals/ Reverse T3 etc on web and read, read, read if you can, or ask a friend or family member to do so.  The right doctor will know all of this and more and help you.

Good luck and don't give up
