Graves Disease andTIA

I was  diagnosed with Graves Disease in 1995.  After about 3 years of trial and error and various treatments, I finally had reached a point where even though I still had some problems with fatigue, etc., for the most part I was finally able to live a fairly semi-normal life again.  Then about two months ago I started having problems with TIAs (mini strokes). I have had problems physically such as numbness of fingers and foot of right side, weak legs and back, droopy  eyes, slurred speech. I've had all possible tests completed and nothing has been found to be the cause.  The diagnosis was that they were caused by the great amount of stess I've been under.  Is it possible that the Graves Disease and TIAs are related in some way?  Thank you, Ococha

The answer to post here about "Graves remission and still having symptoms" basicaly stated that my symptoms can be caused from
something called pernicious anemia.  It is one more thing that thyroid patienst can get.  I am having that checked out this week.

HI- I ALSO HAVE GRAVES, SINCE 2003. I ENDED UP IN THE HOSPITAL WITH A TIA, IN DEC. 2005, THEY RAN A BUNCH OF TEST MRA, HEAD, COW AND CAROTID, CT AND THEY ALL CAME BACK NEGATIVE... THEY HAVE NO ANSWERS FOR ME EITHER. THEY TOOK LIKE 20 THINGS OF BLOOD, AND THE ONLY THING THAT WAS WERIOD WAS MY TSH- IT WAS 23 HYPO. THEY CHANGED MY SYNTHROID TO 125- AND WITH IN THE MONTH MY TSH WAS BACK TO NORMAL. WISH I HAD AN ANSWER FOR YOU, I'M GLAD I HAVE FOUND SOMEONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE.

Are you taking any meds. for your Graves Disease?  I was diagnosed 4 1/2 years ago and put on Tapazole for the hyperthyroidism.  Recently,  I was having many symptoms and complaints and was told to come off of the meds.  I am in remission and doing fine so far.  The meds. themselves can cause problems.  I would suggest talkikng to an Endocrinologist.

I don't think they are directly related.  Graves is typically related to strokes/TIAs in the setting of irregular hearbeat or significant elevation in blood pressure.  After 7 years of being fairly stable with regard to thyroid, I would not think there is a relationship.  If the neuro symptoms persist then a second opinion from a neurologist may be helpful.
