Thyroid Ultrasound

hello! i am new here and am wondering if anyone can shed some light on my situation. I was just sent in for a thyroid ultrasound after my doctor felt a nodule during a routine exam. I could plainly see nodules on the screen and the technician was measuring them. I tried to remember exactly the images I saw, but the one most concerning was an oval shaped nodule that was completely blue on the color Doppler screen. On a separate image, I saw long and narrow images of blue and red. I also saw flecks of blue and red on an image. I'm not sure if I was looking at the same image several times or if each time was a separate nodule. Lastly, she measured nodules on both the right and left sides of my thyroid. Sigh, I'm a 42 year old mom of 2 and feel a little concerned at what this all might mean. I know you can't tell me anything for sure but based on your experiences I wondered if any of you had any insight. Thank you!

Thank you so much for responding! I actually picked up my ultrasound report! I still haven't heard from my doctor but was able to get an appointment with a specialist for next week. I would love to hear your thoughts on my ultrasound report. I do have slight tightness in my throat and can feel something in my throat which I had thought was due to my sinuses. Thanks for taking the time to read this!!

Right thyroid lobe measures 4.8 x 1.5 x 1.7 cm.
There is a 4 x 2 x 3 mm partially cystic nodule in the superior right lobe.
There is a 6 x 5 x 4 mm cystic nodule in the inferior right lobe.

Left thyroid lobe measures 5.1 x 1.2 x 2 cm.
There is a 9 x 7 x 9 mm partially cystic nodule in the inferior left lobe.
There is an 8 x 3 x 5 mm partially cystic nodule in the medial aspect if the inferior left lobe.

There are no abnormal lymph nodes.
The isthmus measures .2 cm.

Impression: Bilateral cystic nodules as detailed above. The 9 x 7 x 8 mm partially cystic nodule is approx 50% cystic component and is in the inferior left lobe. Ultrasound follow up advised. There are no calcifications demonstrated within the nodule.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
I recommend waiting for the report and discussing the findings with your doctor.  In general, nodules >1-1.5 cm are considered for FNA biopsy depending on the characteristics seen.
