Thyroid "normal results"

Can someone please help me???????

I am 30 year old female, and have experienced 50% or more hair loss.  I'm suspecting thyroid problems (strong family history, and small nodule found almost 2 years ago).  I am painfully tired, have no energy, constant cold hands and feet, and suffering from insomnia.

I have had the following tests done by 2 different doctors, and they are telling me its normal.
TSH- 1.97
T3-1.2
T4-6.1

I have not had the thyroid antibody test done.

I have been reading on many, many forums that all say they have suspected thyroid dysfunction and hair loss, but their tests come back within normal range.  Although my results fall in normal range, does anyone see anything suspicious in these numbers?  Are there any other tests I should request I have done?  I have just moved to Austin, Tx and I'm having a very hard time finding a doctor with half decent reviews.  I took a change on a few, and the reviews have all been accurate unfortunately.  One place didn't even take down my medical history?!

I am begging someone to have some input or advise for me.  My hair is so thin, and I'm afraid its going to keep getting worse if I DO have an untreated thyroid condition.

Thank you
Ashley

Hi! Thanks for you response. I'm on my 3rd doctor here in Austin. She said she did a full thyroid panel on me, which includes free t3, free t4.  She highly suspects I have an MTHFR gene mutation when she saw how how my cholesterol, ferritin, and vit D was.  She also suspects hypo/hashi's which is often related to MTHFR mutations.  I get my results tomorrow. At this point I don't care what's going on, I just need answers!!

Hello.  It sounds like hypothyroid issues to me with the cold hands, hair loss and insomnia.  I had a myriad of symptoms for two years, seeing several different doctors, all who just wanted to prescribe anti anxiety meds and send me on my way.  My TSH finally bottomed out and I had nodules that decided to start enlarging when they finally started believing me that something was wrong.  You definitely need to have the antibody test and FREE T3 and FREE T4.  It looks like your numbers above are total t3 and t4.  I would push for an ultrasound to recheck the nodule that was discovered two years previously.  It's a good idea to request copies of all your lab work results.  Reference ranges are different from lab to lab.  If you are on this forum much in the future, you will be asked to post all your results, including reference ranges.  I was positive for antibodies and subsequently I am experiencing swings from hyper to hypo.  There is rarely a happy medium or periods of no symptoms.  I have had lots of symptoms for almost 3 years now and was only began on Methimazole in January of this year to control what this doctor is calling Graves Disease(hyperthyroid).  The previous doctor said it was Hashimoto's (hypothyroid) but didn't prescribe any medicine because the TSH was within normal limits.  It's a roller coaster, but be persistent and ask for labs and ultrasounds, etc.  Have  you checked for Endos in Austin that specialize in thyroid issues?
