TSH went from 4.7 to 1.7 in four weeks - is this normal

I had a TSH test done on 10/30/06 and it was 4.7 (test done in middle of day)  The next test I went to an endo. (I am preg., and he tested my TSH, T4, free T4, T3, etc ...  The TSH came back as 1.7 (test done in morning).  All the other test were in normal limts.  Is such a change possible?  He said not to come back for 3 months, but with a change like that should I be test every month since I am preggers?  I don't understand how it could be so different.

If not on medications for thyroid, 2-3 months sounds reasonable - I usually test my patients on thyroxine every 6-8 weeks during pregnancy.

Thyroid function varies during pregnancy - 4.7 to 1.7 is a fairly large swing however.  TSH during early pregnancy tends to be lower than in the non-pregnanc state.

With pregnancy things change rather quickly so that is why it is important to constantly monitor your levels...that happened to me and I was not preggers.... That crazy thyroid!!!  Good luck with everything!!
