I am 29 yrs old, the same age of my mother when she found out she had thyroid ca. I went o the dr thinking i was either losing my mind or seriously depressed. My hair falls out my nails are brittle, I have been extremely wired to the point of no sleep or so exhausted i cant pull myself outta bed. The Dr kept rubbing  my throat asking me about my family history then sent me for labs. I was called a week later and tod I tested positive for H. Pylori bacteria and my thyroid levels were off, Thyroglobulin antibodies <20, thyroid peroxidase<10, T4,Free 1.2, and TSH 3rd generation 3.48. I was sent for an ultrasound of the thyroid and recieved a call today telling me I have a 3mm cyst on my left and 2mm cyst on my right. Im confused and dont really know what to think. any suggestions? My Dr of coarse tells me not to worry and she will see me agian in 6 months. I culdnt accept that answer so I will hopefuly be seeing a dr at MD Anderson by the end of the week, but until then Im scared.

This should be monitored with repeat ultrasound in 6 months.  If the ultrasound is accurate, these 2 & 3mm lesions are too small for FNA biopsy.  The TSH is borderline high, but with negative antibodies.  Observation is likely the best course of action.  Some may offer a trial of levothyroxine given the TSH and symptoms  -- this would be reasonable.

Thank you for your rapid response. I am going to MD Anderson friday and I am told it will be an all day appt, for further tests and labs. My concern is I feel the lump in my throat and it feels like Im choking when I swallow, when Im stressed out it is worse. Will the levothyroxine help with any of the symptoms or make me more groggy?
