hashimotos/hypothyroidism

I was recently diagnosed with hashimotos. The dr is telling me it's most likely from the severe viral infection i had in feb. I do have goiters also, but was told that when they enlarge i can switch between hypo/hyper and that over time my body will kill my own thyroid and i will become hypo. Is there really a need for me to take synthroid 25mcg for hashimotos? and will it go away. I'm so confused because i do have hay fever and asthma so is the synthroid even okay for me to be taking in the first place?

Synthroid is used to treat hypothyroidism - the most common cause of which is Hashimoto's.  Sometimes patients with viral induced thyroid inflammation have a recovery and don't need medications, but if you have thyrod antibodies and the TSH is high now (5 months after infection) then you need medication (which si fine to take even w/ the history of hay fever and asthma).

Hashi's IS genetic, usually on the maternal side. My maternal aunt and I, both have Hashi's. I had my thyroid removed last year. I am on 300mcg of levothyroxine. I have had no side effects, except my body doesn't seem to be converting the T4 to T3 effectively. I'm going to endo next week and suggesting a natural thyroid, such as Amour. Amour is derived from pig thyroid, so as long as you aren't allergic to pork, maybe you should try a natural approach, instead of synthetic.

Our 27-YO daughter was recently diagnosed with scleroderma per SCL-70 blood test results of 7.6 and a slightly high ANA,  Her only symptoms are eczema and a recent tendinitis in her knee.  Is this a definitive diagnosis, and how would one know if it's the limited type of scleroderma or the more serious kind?  (Ironically, our youngest daughter who is 26, was just diagnosed with Hashimoto's).  Is this genetic? Thank you for your help.

Ever since I started on thyroid meds I have broken out in hive like rashes severely. I started taking zytech every other day and its got it under control. I recently swiched from synthroid to Tirosint and I am now getting canker sores contstantly. I have a feeling I am allergic to the thyroid medication in general, but my hashimoto is so severe I cannot get off the meds. (TPA is 2510!) Does anyone else suffer from canker sores after getting on levothyroxine?

I also have another question. I have a swollen tonsil and it's been that way now for a few weeks. I went to the dr today because it just started hurting, but he said he doesn't think it's strep throat but more likely a viral infection. But last night i had a fever and then this am i woke up with it gone, but now my throat feels terrible =( Could this be from my thyroid ? The reason im asking this is because i had that viral infection in feb and now i have one again, is it possible for it to be back ? im so confused.
