hypothyroid hair loss

I was dx w hypothroid 3 yrs ago. At that time I had
long thick wavy hair. Also , I had some excessive body hair as well, but nothing I couldn't deal with. After being placed on Synthroid, my hair got significantly thinner, finer. I STILL am losing hair!!! Also, why did I lose hair AFTER being place medication? Isn't the med suppose to "correct " the problem??

Hey,
I was also reading about the primrose oil. I wanted to know how often you applied it? And how fast did you start seeing the results?

Thyroid disease is only one cause of hair problems -- keeping the TSH normal usually helps, in some cases adding T3 may help (ie cytomel or change to armour) --- if not then consult w/ a dermatologist to see if anything else is contributing.

I can relate to the hair issue!  I also had long thick hair.  When I was put on synthroid after TT , it was a horrible situation.  Once I went on Armour Thyroid my hair soon stopped falling out, wasn't as dry and felt better.  Also, you have to make sure your levels are balanced perfectly.  That can also effect it.  I take evening primrose oil that also helps with hair growth, etc.  I think that helped a ton!!!!  Hang in there, I was about to lose my mind this time last year and I promise this too shall pass!!!!!
