Lymph node mapping is done with ultrasound is recommended pre-operatively for biopsy proven PTC as about 1 in 7 patients will have lymph nodes in the lateral neck (lateral to the carotid) that change the extent of the initial surgery. This mapping is best done by someone with experience.
I am a ultrasonographer and agree it looked suspicious to me and my endo was not onthe same page as I so I went outside my HMO. This outside DR wants to do a lymph node mapping himself, what does that entail? Is it a sonogram or through nuclear medicine?
That ultrasound image is very typical for PTC - I am glad you got a definite diagnosis.
