thyroid nodule

New nodule 3.5x1.5x.9...FNA results almost exclusively a polymorphous population of lymphocytes and blood.  There are scattered  tingible body macrophages present.  No follicular epithelial cells are identified.  Report suggested these findings could represent aspiration of a reactive lymph node.....No way endo said ....I watched the ultrasound as she did the FNA.  She was definitely poking the large lump I have.

So Endo suggests total thyroid surgery.

I also have Type 1 diabetes(27yrs).  61female on 88 levo.
Overall health and weight good.  No symptoms.
Having trouble with

On ultrasound was this a thyroid nodule or a lymph node?  Do you have Hashimoto's thyroiditis (more common in T1DM)?  Would review US endocrinologist to address these issues and consider having slides sent for another opinion.  Also ask if testing for lymphoma (rare) is necessary).  But 3.5cm is fairly large (however you mention 0.9cm as one dimension -- so this is almost like a "string bean" which may be a lymph node that is normal/reactive).

You sound confused also.  So how do you know if it is a nodule or a lymph node?
The endo wrote on the report " NO definite thyroid nodule US guided" where the report said possibly a "aspiration of a reactive lymph node".
Yes I have Hashimoto's thyroiditis. And yes she said she was concerned about lymphoma.  She is recommending surgical removal.
Have not gotten the CT scan report yet.
The nodule or lymph node ?(I sure don't know) is on the left side of my adams apple.  It felt numb until she did the FNA.  Also it is less than a mm from the cartoid artery.  One minute I'm panicked and next thinking they are making something out of nothing.  However slowly but surely the thyroid is being killed off so maybe removing it now is the answer. Any comments.??
