Dear Dr.Lupo, thanks for your advice during the year, I finally gave up relying on herb medicine and found a good team of doctors, a surgeon in major hospital should be experienced right? Just wonder how soon can I travel after surgery? If I can't return within two months, would it be a problem without regular monitoring of my thyroid level?
Thank you Bunny1960 and mrsbarnes15 for sharing your experiences, my surgery is in a week, your words ease my worries, good luck with your recovery too!
I had a thyroidectomy and neck dissection on Febuary 20th. My voice was a little scratchy for a day or two but my voice has been the same ever since! Good Luck!
I had a total thyroidectomy four days ago and my voice is a little lower kind of like when you are recovering from a cold and I can not talk very loudly but I
know this is all temporary. You will be fine!
A transient voice loss is common, but this should not be permanent (only 1-2% chance with a good surgeon) -- the key here is to make certain that your surgeon does at least 30-40 thyroid surgeries per year (lower complication rate with higher volume surgeons).
