hypothyroidism

Hi I am about five weeks 3 days havent dating U/S yet so not 100%  hcg levels put baby at 3 1/2  weeks. I have hypothyroidism and if I do not take my script for it my thyroid lvls go way down I was just wondering what are the risks in being preg. And having hypothyroidism? I am supposed to see a specialist next week but I would like SOME answers now if possible. My family doc doesn't know much about it hence the specialist.

Thanks for any comments.

Warning I've read just a bit.  Not a doctor, etc.

From what I've read there doesn't seem to be any negative outcomes for pregnant women who are treated for hypothyroidism.  Untreated hypothyroidism would be potential a problem, but you are being treated. So should be good.

I think the only real concern is that metabolism increases during pregnancy and thus often women who have hypothyroidism need a bit more meds, particularly in the first trimester. So you should have your labs done much more often.  Maybe Every couple of weeks, at least at first.

Hard not to worry but I think you'll be fine.

Good luck.

It is critical to have normal thyroid status during pregnancy - so this likely means you need medication and frequent monitoring.  Your OBGYN should know about this.  Risks include neurologic development problem, pre-term delivery, miscarriages.
