Symptoms Related to Thyroid?

I have two strange symptoms that I am wondering if they could be related to my thyroid problem (goiter with hypo symptoms).  With so many experienced, knowledgeable folks on this forum, it would be interesting to see what you all think:

(1) A muscle spasm type thing, like a charlie-horse, in my neck on the left side of my thoat near the thyroid area.  It occurs seldom (I can go months without a problem) but when it occurs it happens when I am swallowing, lasts probably less than a minute, but hurts like the devil.  I can't talk and my eyes water like crazy.  It feels like something gets stuck.  When I mentioned it to the doctor, he didn't seem to have a clue what I was talking about,  so haven't mentioned it to him since. Is there anyone that has ever had a similar experience?

(2) The other issue is the visual auras I sometimes have with, but mostly without, headache.  I have these anywhere from 3 -9 months apart. The neurologist seems to think it's a migraine variant.  Could this possibly be affected by a thyroid problem?

Thank you for any insight into how these could somehow relate.

Those two headache articles are very helpful. Thank you! I will certainly talk to my new doctor about my recurrent headaches + the auras.  Recently had another mild aura episode after 9 months.  These episodes for me begin with a blind spot that grows; then the colored oscilating lights start, a slight feeling of being pulled away from what goes on around me, although I am awake and can talk through them. I also experience the flashes of light you mentioned Laura. (A few times in my life I have had a real seisure and the EEG shows some mild brain spikes.)  My neuro in TX said it was migraine variant or simple partial lobe seizures, but he was leaning more toward the SPLS.  The neuro here in Panama said, "no, I think it's MV".  Who knows?.  All I know is that I have begun to have more frequent headaches, almost daily now, and they have gotten worse since having to start the thyroid hormone for goiter and hypo symptoms.  Maybe if they increase the amount of Eutirox I am taking it will improve?

I get flashes of light in my right eye quite frequently, that my eye doctor said are ocular migraines. I do get bad headaches in the front of my forehead and in the middle of my eyebrow area.
