Am going in Tuesday for initial consult and exam with a new obgyn, so hopefully will be setting up surgery to get rid of Aunt Flo.

I was the one who couldn't touch my son for 2 weeks.  Was in the same house with him all the time, and believe me it was not a good idea.  Had to keep my distance, which meant a lot of time in the spare bedroom, and couldn't touch any of his food, etc.  I had to have an extremely large dose b/c I had no TSH with Graves.  Didn't get to take a pill like all of you did, I had to drink mine b/c they don't make pills with that much in them.  At the time they told me I could be in the same house with him and not affect him as long as I didn't stay near him for any period of time, but after this forum I wonder if that was such a good idea.  The one who gave me mine had given himself RAI when he developed all the symptoms, so I figured he knew what he was talking about, but now am not so sure.  Too late to go back now, so will just have to deal with it if there is a problem with any body who was here, especially the kids.

Made an appt. with Primary doc for thurs afternoon. I'm not sure how long to wait and see if symptoms are thyroid related or if something else needs to be investigated. I worry about the cognitive issues becoming permanent. My grandmother diead from a brain aneurysm and i have an Aunt with brain cancer, so I can't put this off any longer.I

Hi everyone -
Reading this forum has been a lifesaver! I don't post a lot but I'm constantly reading! Tomorrow is my thyroid surgery. My ENT is removing the right lobe due to a suspicion of follicular neoplasm. I would prefer that he took the whole thyroid so I don't have to do this again, but he refuses. He's the best surgeon in our area, so I'll trust him. The nerves are beginning to really kick in now. Thanks for listening and for all the support that you give by contributing to this forum!

My sister in Illinois is having a FNA on Oct 3rd. She's been avoiding doing this for a few weeks now.   Her life is very hectic and she usually has to others before her own health.  I've been pushing her to be proactive in her thyroid treatment, but I think a part of her is scared because she was here for my surgery and saw first hand what I went through.  That couple with other medical problems like morbid obesity, knee replacements, a jackass for a husband, and a few others I'm sure she's had but I'm forgettting.  The surgeon doing the FNA took care of one of my sister's co-workers and he's suppose to be pretty good.  I told her to make sure the do it ultrasound guided.  Again, I have to play the waiting game in a situation that I have no control over......Sucks for a control freak like I can be sometimes.

I was told to go back on my regular diet the day following my treatment dose.  That, and was able to finally get on my hormone replacement as well.  Feeling much better!!

When do you go in for your scan?  I don't know your history, but depending on how much thyroid tissue you have will depend on how much RAI you receive.

Hope that helps!

Well, I finally got an appt with my regular practicioner Doc. I am going to go in tommorrow morning and have my bp and my iron checked. I have had a history of getting anemic after surgeries and having babies and the past few days I have been so worn down - then my bf said I was looking really pale and worn and then my sis who is a nurse said she was worried my iron was low too SO I am going to go get it checked out. I have also been on blood pressure meds for a few months so I'll be checking that too. Wish me luck!

Oh Dear.  I was thinking 2 nights in a hotel and then home.  I have daughters that JUST turned 4 & 7.  They don't understand staying away either.

Another question please.  When do you go back to a regular diet?  Right after RAI?

It does depend on your dose.  I was given 30mCi - pretty low.  My isolation was only 2 days.  But, I have teenagers, so they had no problem keeping their distance!  :-)  My paperwork shows 5-6 days for anything over 150mCi, so most likely that's what you had.  I'm sure you're going crazy not seeing those little ones.  I know I would have!  Better safe than sorry, though.  And you're right - the time leading up to the RAI is nasty.  I don't want a repeat anytime soon.

Hang tough....you're almost there!!

They told me because my kids are so little 2,3 & 6 that it would be best to stay away at least 5 days. The little ones just don't understand that they need to stay away from mommy's neck. I'm going in thursday to have the geiger counter waved over me to see how much radiation I'm still emitting. They said they don't worry as much when you live with adults. I'm staying with my mom, I couldn't handle being holed up in my room at home and it seemed to be the easiest way. She is home now so it's not a total isolation though.
It seems I've heard different times for everyone on this board. I know someone else with young kids mentioned something like 2 weeks but others have had only a few days. I think it depends on your dose as well.
Yeah, leading up to RAI is no fun but at least you are almost there. It does seem like a relief to have it almost over.

Hope this helps.

I go for check up with my pcp tomorrow to follow up on brochotitis, get B-12 shot, and talk about pnuemonia shot as the hospital recommeneded it to me due to frequent brochotitis. Also I should call my ENT tomorrow but want to wait until what my pcp said about it but I have disolvable stiches on one of them did not disolve yet and sticking out still on the corner, all of the others had disolved already.

I have my blood test on Friday in preparation for RAI next week.  I can't wait til it's over.  I am handling things but I'm not happy.  Being off meds is bad enough, but in combination with the LID, it's very hard to handle!

Imedicommy - I thought the isolation was only 3 days -- why are you still in isolation?  Also, did you leave the house to do the isolation?

Well, I am calling today to schedule an appt with my reg Dr who was also there assisting in my surgery. I need to get some stuff checked out and have some questions for him too. I still don't get bloodwork done for a couple more weeks... anxious to see where I am at bc I am starting to feel a bit tired and dragging, but not sure if it is still recovery from surgery or meds not on the right levels.

I go in tomorrow to the ENT doc to have the lovely camera strung down my nose to look at my vocal cords.  I'm really kind of excited for the appointment, because I really think the other vocal cord is now moving.
