Anyone experimented with Earthing and improve thyroid function?

I've been doing some research lately and found some interesting information on the subject. Earthing is the process of grounding yourself one way or another. This can be walking outside barefoot or connecting a grounding cable into your wall socket to you while you sleep. The research shows and improvement in thyroid function, sleep, blood pressure, cortisol normalization and the list goes on. Anyone have any success with this?

Same boat here. Earthing for a week. Definitely toxic reaction to thyroid meds. I took a smaller dose yesterday and was better. Took a bigger dose today and it's rather awful. I'll take none for a couple days, let things settle and go in at a lower dose. Sometimes I get spikes and have to come off. The earthing is working in a number of ways. I have a half sheet. The detractors should respect that while it may not work for them, it may very well work for others.

As has been noted above, this is a very old thread; Bugg70 and the other posters above are no longer active on the forum, so we have no idea how they turned out.

I think you'll be very disappointed lowering your levo dose from 100 to 50, as there is no scientific evidence of a cure for either Hashimoto's or hypothyroidism.

Best of luck to you.

I have Hashimoto's and am hypothyroid. Thought I would try earthing for other reasons (heart issues). Bought a earthing half sheet and earthing pad. Have been using them for 5 days. I definitely feel tingling in my legs and arms for most of the day. A good kind of tingling. Downside is that I also get headaches, palpitations and the sweats. I do not have the flu or a cold. I think it is the earthing reacting with my levyothyroxine. I take 100mcg/day. I am going to cut back to 50mcg/day and see how I feel. If that does not work then I will test my TSH, Free T3 &T4, Anti-TP again. Would love for the earthing to be a cure for both the Hashimoto's and hypothyroid.

The adverse reaction could be because of dirty electricity near you when earthing. Your body is a magnet to it when  grounded. Effective earthing occurs when you are not near these harmful transients in the electrical wiring. I'm hypo and have benefitted from outdoor grounding only, and away from the electrical cable to the house.

My bed is not "earthed" and I, typically, fall asleep within 8-12 min of getting into bed and I almost always sleep soundly for 7.5-8 hrs straight.  My better sleep was a prime benefit of adequate thyroid hormones.

Is your bed earthed or are you just earthing for a couple of hours a day?

I think you need to be earthed at night to really experience the best of it. I've been having 8 hours + every night without exception for over 3 weeks now. I also fall asleep in under 10 minutes when before earthing my bed it could have been hours sometimes.

As you noted, this is a very old thread and most of the previous posters are no longer active on the forum, so it's unlikely to you will get a response.

I can't comment on the Earthing, since I don't really believe in it, especially, since I do go barefoot outside a lot and my thyroid medication is the only thing that stabilizes my thyroid hormones.

Even though your levels are showing to be in range, they might be too high for you.  Because your dose of levo doesn't hit right when you take the pill, it's possible that you're reacting to a filler/binder in the levoyl.  Have you thought about trying a different med?

Levoxyl was recalled some time ago; I didn't think it was even available anymore.

I know I am a couple years late but just saw this after googling about earthing and thyroid over medication.  I have been hypothyroid for 15 or more years. I began "grounding/earthing" six months ago.  I did not learn the symptoms of hyperthyroidism and continued on. I experienced a feeling of being strangled when I wore turtlenecks along with real heightened anxiety, heart rate, sweating, etc.  It was foolish of me not to know those symptoms while grounding.  My thyroid levels have remained normal.  This is why I was so confused. Then suddenly about a week ago, I took my regular dose and I felt this flood of perspiring and heart rate escalated, etc.  I wasn't sure if it was the Levoxyl so the next day I took my pill at night (0.088 mcg) per the pharmacist's suggestion.  Within minutes I had another reaction.  I knew something was wrong. I researched this, called my doctor and explained that I believed I was getting too much thyroid medication. We had my levels taken again while I held off taking the med. Again, they came back NORMAL. What is a person to do?? So of course, relying on levels, she aadvised me to continue with the medicine.  So, I cut my tab in half and I STILL had a toxic reaction. By now I knew without a shadow of a doubt that the Earthing had normalized my levels on its own but my doctor remains unconvinced. I have not taken any medication for three days and I have continued to experience each day hyperthyroid symptoms but lessened with each day.  My dilemma remains. Am I playing with fire by not taking it? It appears that I am BY continuing to take it YET I have toxic hyperthyroid symptoms when I do. Why my levels continue to show normal is beyond me because for all intents and purposes they should show higher levels.  I have tried to make appts to see other Endo's to get help but they are all booked way out.  My doctor won't see me even on an emergency basis because she thinks I am imagining this.  The clinic won't let me see another doc within. It is, quite frankly, insane!  So, I am left on my own to doctor myself because my own Thyroid doctor is a bonehead and refuses to even consider the symptoms in this case. How classic can the symptoms be: Heightened anxiety, elevated pulse, headache, sweating/perspiring, heart palpitations, craving intensely sweets (I'm not a sweet eater at all), eating up a storm and no weight gain, exhaustion/fatigue, joint pain (but I have rheumatoid arthritis so I figured it was my RA), irritability and so on.  This is why I find it incredulous that she won't consider the symptoms apart from the levels.  Sad thing is -- she is a local well-respected endocrinologist.  I'm at a loss as to where to continue to go, for going to the ER or urgent care won't be much better as they are not specialists.  Truly sad.  My point in saying all of this is that YES, earthing DOES affect the thyroid and Cold Hugger88 is definitely right on.  KNOW YOUR SYMPTOMS, especially HYPER-thyroid symptoms if you are typically hypo.

Are you sure that your feeling better going barefoot or sitting on the ground, doesn't have more to do with relaxing with nature? I always feel better after I've spent time outside (I, too, love to go barefoot), but it's never done anything to change either my thyroid hormone levels OR my antibody counts.

I read the book ''Earthing,'' and was intrigued because I've always felt better when I went barefoot for long periods of time, and noticed that when I stopped doing it regularly, I never felt quite the way I did when I was. I was skeptical about the products, but fascinated by the idea, since it went along so well with what I had experienced for years, but never had an explanation for. I've never used any of the products. I only go barefoot, or sit on the ground, and have experienced significantly less back pain, noticibly better circulation [tingling in the legs and feet after doing it for an hour or two], a much quicker and easier time getting to sleep, lower stress, and probably most importantly to me, a more normalized heart rate, which is something I've had a LOT of trouble with for the past almost 2 years. Earthing releases extra electrical stress in the body, which in turn helps to normalize electrical function in the body-which makes me feel a lot better!! And you don't have to buy a thing. It's free, and it's amazing. But hey, don't take my word for it. Try it for yourself. :)

Since you apparently read this book, save me some time by answering this question -

Did earthing lower the thyroid antibody count in people with autoimmune hypothyroid (Hashimoto disease)?

So far with a few similar posts the last few years regarding 'natural'  thyroid cures, no one has EVER come back to answer this simple question that I ask them.

Everything on the planet is giving up or accepting electrons, including us if we are not insulated against outer objects. We are after all, a mess of liquified minerals held together with flesh. Every mineral has anodes or cathodes that give or take from it, from other minerals near by. In this case when we are grounded we electrically upset the individual minerals in our bodies. This is one way the human body actually generates a very small amount of electricity - from the electrons jumping and changing in numbers within the different minerals our bodies hold inside.

Changing the state of minerals in us will have physiological changes to a small degree, similar to taking a bunch of vitamins or some how having some extracted from us.

But will this halt the attack of antibodies on someones thyroid gland?

Just taking a bunch of the right vitamins in someone that does not have thyroid disease could very likely increase their thyroid function. But vitamins will not stop the autoimmune attack with someone who has actual thyroid disease with increased antibodies.

I guarantee you, if I or others with Hashimoto stopped taking thyroid replacement and plugged ourselves into the ground at night,  functioning after three months would be very difficult.

Please read this book before jumping to conclusions:

http://www.amazon.com/Earthing-Most-Important-Health-Discovery/dp/1591202833/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1311733498&sr=8-1

The evidence compiled there is compelling, both scientifically and empirically. Furthermore, no one is trying to sell you anything; the process involves standing barefoot, outside. Any products attached to the phenomenon are optional.

Here is a recent study of note:

All joking aside, If you have hashis, the real test of a cure is if your antibody count drops and T3 and T4 is raised.  I'm sure people would like to know.

A true test is to compare frees and antibody counts before and after.  If it works you could be a star, if you call up 60 Minutes and let them know of this discovery, why not? It would be the first documentation for all to see.

actually you don't have to buy anything.  The same grounding effect can be achieved by going barefoot directly on the ground.  in my case, the bands are much more convenient.  and haha LazyMoose that's funny, you can believe what u like.  but this is my actual experience.  and no affiliation with the included links.

as far as this being my first and probably only post on this website.  i created an account after i saw Mudkme83's post.  Prior to doing this, i searched the internet upside down looking for more information on the topic and found very little.  one of the few things i did come across was Mudkme83 post looking for "Anyone Experimented With Earthing", with zero responses.  so yea of course i wanted to come back and share my experience.

i realize this might be the wrong kind of website to discuss it.  As many people wont accept anything not first documented in a medical journal.  But like i said before, i'm not dispensing advice to anyone.  i came here to tell Mudkme83 my experience with earthing.

When car sales go down, these guys need to do something I guess. Its entertaining.

But seriously - I'm going to drag around a logging chain behind me attached to my belt and fill my pocket full of dirt, to see if it lowers my thyroid antibody count. I'll have a full report next month.

I heard working black bear poop into your hair helps too.....but the smell is awful, so I'll let ColdHugger88 try that.

So you decided to join our little Forum and post your first and only message, in order to support the idea of grounding,  and the sale of products to facilitate it, with your testimonial about all the benefits for hypothyroidism.  Quite a coincidence.

disclaimer:  i am not a doctor.  i do not dispense medical advice.  im simply here to share my experience with this topic.

i discovered earthing from david wolfe.  i was Extremely interested when i found out grounding supposedly improves thyroid function.  i am hypothyroid.  i hope to improve and someday cure my thyroid.  A little background info on me:

-26 years old male
-hypothyroid now for 4 years
-medication: Synthroid 112 mcg

After deciding i wanted to experiment with this i purchased some Grounding Body Bands from this website. http://www.shop.earthing.net/Earthing-Bands_c2.htm.  i am fortunate enough that i can get away with wearing these while at work.  so i began on a monday, wore the grounding band for an hour before lunch.  and then wore it again for an hour after lunch.  All day i felt completely normal, no changes.  On tuesday i did the same thing, 1 hour before and 1 hour after lunch.  During the second hour on tuesday i began feeling different.  I felt a heaviness in my neck, kind of like my thyroid was swollen.  And my blood pressure was noticeably high.  which may have just been anxiety.  so i decided to STOP grounding until these symptoms passed.  All day on Wednesday i still felt the heaviness in my neck, and my eyes felt irritated.  Thursday i continued to feel a heaviness in my neck and also had a headache behind my eye.  My eyes felt irritated and fatigued.  Thursday i located some of my symptoms when i researched symptoms of Over Medication Of Thyroid.  http://thyroid.about.com/library/articles/blovermedicated-checklist.htm.

On Friday morning i decided to cut my synthroid pill in half.  i called a pharmacist, who assured me that a 112 synthroid cut in half is the exact same thing as a 56 mcg synthroid.  Friday at work i felt an immediate difference in the heaviness in my neck, it was nearly gone.  And for those people who say synthroid builds up in your system and it takes weeks for a changed dose to  affect you, thats a bunch of BS.  Try not taking your pill for a day and see how it feels.  So Friday i could instantly tell the pressure wasn't as bad in my neck.  My heart rate normalized and i  started feeling better.  Saturday morning i did the same thing, cut my pill in half.  And Saturday evening i began feeling symptoms of HYPOthyroid.  i can easily recognize the symptoms, its very different than the symptoms from Over Medication.  I know by saturday that i want to go Full On with this and i start wearing the grounding band while i sleep.

Sunday i cut my thyroid pill in 3/4 and took it.  Felt a little woozy all day but no longer felt hypothyroid, which is very good.  Now i know i can control it.  Monday i cut my pill in half, wore the grounding band while i slept.  and also wore it some while awake.  Felt Better!  so i begin taking a half pill everyday and doing the grounding.  Now I have been taking a half pill and grounding for over a week with no thyroid symptoms!  feels great.  I know his is significant, and will definately continue.  i get my thyroid levels checked once every 6 months.  I am confident my next checkup will come back normal.

if you are planning to experiment with your thyroid, i strongly urge you to Learn And Know your symptoms.
