Anyone now taking ERFA thryoid?

I thought it might be a good idea to start a post about taking ERFA thryoid medicine.  I received so much great information and support on the reformulated Nature Throid thread I wanted to start the same for ERFA.

Yes. Just started it two weeks ago and noticed I needed more to feel right. Take 2 60mg in morning. The Armour new prescription took for week and it wasn t working. Then take another 60mg of Erfa later in day. Caught a bad cold and now have lost my sense of taste. Researched that and said it can be caused by thyroid medicine. I am scared. Took Armour for 15 years and now latest formula does not work. Doctor also prescribed NP Thyroid by Acella but I had tried that once before and it made me weak. Maybe I should try to do the Erfa under tongue. I also took a Probiotic to help med absorb. Allergic to synthetics. Can anyone help. So scared. The Erfa feels good no headache no brain fog but the loss of taste is bizarre. Karen. ***@****

Took Erfa for 3 months 2 grains split per day. Started getting jittery and couldn t think clearly. Started on NP Thyroid 2 grains split. Body felt calm. Now 4th day and got foggy 2 hours after taking am dose. Took an Adrenal Complex didn t help. Chewed a zinc 10mg that usually helps didn t work. Then took garlic gel tabs 3 and a Cinnamon 1000mg and a blood pressure pill 10mg Enalapril ace inhibitor and about hour later head cleared. I was going to try taking 1/2 grain of NP Thyroid but will wait now.  Think T3 in Erfa absorbs too fast. Body needed to calm down. Maybe NP absorbs slower so that s why I got foggy. I feel a little stronger on NT. Just want this to work so badly. Made my body feel good like it did when I started on old Armour. More complications now High blood pressure. Eat low carb for blood sugar.  Anybody have any ideas. Karen Gardner. ***@****

Hi all I'm new here so ignore please if I mess up. It's so nice to see so many posts about thyroid a wow I feel right at home! Okay my problem is long but I will shorten it, in 95 my doctor found a cyst on my thyroid gland and removed it. He put me on .225 Thyroxine and within the next year I lost 100 pounds- yes I had gained a lot. I was so happy but lost so much strangers were telling me I was too skinny. My doctor said over and over that people are different and all didn't need to be on .125 but when he left and I got a new doctor- this was a learning institute- the first thing my new one did was cut me down to .125- and I gained the weight back. Then two years later different dr. I talked him into putting me on Amour and I started walking every day, don't know if it was one or both but I lost 70 pounds. Then all if a sudden it quit no matter how many miles I walked every day or that I ate nothing but salad and vegetables, it quit. Now I've gained 20 pounds back, and I walk 3 miles and up and down a 10 story building 3 times a day I'm gaining weight. Help! I want to TRY to convince my new dr. To change my meds- it sounds like I'd like to try the ERFA... If I can get him to change it, I've almost begged but so far he won't.

Most likely only those on ERFA are going to read this post, since its titled ERFA.

Best to start a new post on Armour.

Been on ERFA a little over two years.......works best for me. Plus with the option of taking it sublingually (at same dose), food is not an issue.

Kate,
Has anyone answered your question yet...don't see an answer here.

Need help as to what to ask Dr. for...and since she is gonna grill me for wanting to change anyway! So I need info.

Thanks,
Ellyn

Has Armour been reformulated a second time? That's what I've read in several posts in various forums (apparently, this second reformulation took place in late 2010 or early 2011) , and the last batch I got wasn't nearly as bad as the ones described here. Does anyone have any updated info on this; it seems Forest Pharm is not very good at communicating with customers????

Nature Throid was reformulated after Armour was - with the same micro-crystalline cellulose as a filler. The are most similar to each other.

Erfa,is different, which uses dextrose as a filler and absorbs better, plus taken sublingually will result in the same results as digesting, nice option if you need to eat soon.

Most that have tried these three will say Erfa helped them feel the best.

Supposedly Thyroid S is good to, (I have no experience with though) but the places that sell it do not look as reputable.

Hello. I'm writing from Stockholm, Sweden and I tried Armour thyroid for a while. It's very hard for us in Sweden to get hold of armour thyroid or erfa from the States nor Canada. So I have to make my desicions wisely. When I took Armour Thyroid (The new Armour Thyroid) I felt "foggy" all the time and I lost hair rapidly. I quit the treatment and am now thinking about switching to either nature thyroid or Erfa. I don't know which one's better. Appreciate answers from every single person. Blessings from Sweden.

WOW!  You've tried a lot of thyroid meds - That alone really confuses your body. Been there to!

I ve been on ERFA for 2 to  2 -1/2 months. Doing better every week. My body was so messed up from the new Nature Thyroid that I had to start ERFA from a very hypo state and had to ramp up dosing slow. Only been on 2 grains for 1- 1/2 months, and I spread it out it 3 times a day. I have not noticed anything negative about it, its like 'old' Armour. The strength might be a little stronger than even 'old' Armour- very little.

NT was terrible for me, did better on the 'new' Armour last summer than the 'new' Nature Throid this spring.

Good luck Emmy!  We're up to 1 1/2 grains--so far so good! We'll increase to 2 grains at end of week and 2 1/2 grains after that if needed. Only complaint so far is feeling a little tired yet she is getting to bed too late (summer schedule). Have blood work scheduled for 8/13, but I may need to move it to a little later date due to our slow transition. I want to make sure I get an acurate reading on her optimum/maximum dose. Keep us posted on how you are feeling/doing on the ERFA please!

Just received my ERFA!!!  Dr. faxed script 7-16-10, I received on 7-27-10.  Smells yucky and tastes like old Armour, sweet and dissolved under my tougue very quickly.  I was on 4 grains of NT so I'll start at 3 grains, split in 2 doses, so I don't overdo it. Wish me luck!

Well,  keep in mind I was on 1 drug for most of the time and only had to change when the reformulations hit.  I'm praying the ERFA will do the trick and I can get back to normal.  I was telling my mom last night that it was so hard to go back to feeling bad on synthroid and new NT when I had been feeling good.  I refuse to feel bad and get fired/divorced/fat/depressed/heart problems when I know there is something out there to fix me.  Life is good when I'm on the right stuff.  The new NT is worse for me than the new Armour.  I didn't have joint pain or leg/toe cramps on the new Armour.  I have switched back to new Armour while waiting for the ERFA.

Interesting labs after being on the new NT.
               4/14                   6/11                   7/16                  range
OLD NT 4-5grains  OLD NT 3 grains   New NT 4 grains
TSH         .02                   .03                       .02                   .34-5.60
FT4          .84                   .83                       1.01                 .58-1.64
FT3          4.43                 3.31                      3.26                2.39-6.79

I reduced the old NT as I was feeling great but getting severe hand tremors and wanted to see if still felt good at lower dose while getting rid of tremors.  Tremors left but didn't feel quite as good.  Felt severly hypo on new NT.  Interesting that FT4 rose though.

I've been on ERFA for a few years.  No problems to complain of.  It works well for me.

I do however combine it with T4 med.  So I'm currently taking 125 mcg of ERFA and 50 mcg of thyroxine.

I get to retest numbers in another week or so and see how things are looking.  I feel ok and my energy levels are good.

Interestingly I had been taking a higher dose of ERFA before (180 mcg of ERFA), then my doc changed it down, adding in the T4 only.  I FELT hypo at the previous dose.  My FT3 and FT4 were towards the top of range.  But maybe they were too high.  I'm feeling pretty good at this dose.

Slowly switching my daughter to Erfa over the last week. So far so good. She's up to 1 grain of it so far. We will keep tweeking it up slowly in place of her original Nature-Throid until I have her completly switched over. Hoping that a slow transition to it will work better for her then all at once. She is nine (almost 10) and born without a thyroid gland. Made the move to desiccated from Synthroid 1 1/2 years ago, due to heart palps- due to conversion issue (low t3).  Started with good old Armour-did great! Along came the new formula-not so good! Switched to original good Nature-Throid- done great for 1 year. Will not try the new Nature-Throid due to similarities to the changes made in Armour. Now transitioning to Erfa, as it is suppose to be similar to old original Armour, which was great! I'll keep everyone posted on our progress as we go.
