Armour thyroid

is anybody have problem with armour thyroid?. I think nobody should try this medication. My thyroid was attenuated by radioactive iodine. dr.gave me lavothyroxin then change to armour thyroid. Since then I have severe pain on my hips and lower back. He tested my TSH T3 AND T4 --normal then he tried bactireal tests--normal. ultimately he swithed me to cytomel and levthyroxin. My pain reduced to half but it is not going away. Now Dr. himself is puzzed . I have still have half pain and cramps.

Just because your thyroid test results are within the so-called "normal" ranges does not mean they are adequate for YOU.  The ranges are far too broad for that to be the case.  Many of our members report that symptom relief for them required that FT3 was adjusted into the upper part of the range and FT4 adjusted to midpoint of its range.

Please post  your dosage of Levothyroxin, Armour, and now Levo and Cytomel?  If you look at this listing of typical hypo symptoms, do you have any on the list?

I started with Armour Thyroid 15, then increased dose to 30 and started to have slight swelling of my fingers. When dose was increased to 60, swelling become worst, started to have some weird muscle pain, joint pain, appetite increased. I asked my doctor to switch to Levothyroxine and ALL my symptoms disappeared after 3 doses. Armour Thyroid is not natural for humans, but it's natural for pigs. I am glad I switched to Levothyroxine. I should do it earlier.

In humans thyroid gland mostly produces T4 only and in that sense levothyroxine is the natural approach. Concerning T4 to T3 conversion need to look into other deficiencies like Vitamin D, B12, zinc, selenium etc and adrenal problems etc and correct those.

TT Sept 2010. Put on Levothyroxine, then Synthroid. THE WORST THING THAT EVER HAPPENED TO ME. With the help of someone from this forum, I was able to finally find a doctor who put me on Armour. I went from feeling like I was dying to living. I am still working on finding my optimal dose, so that I can feel like I did before TT. There are some people who are saying that the pharmaceutical companies changed Armour, and it's not like it used to be. I don't know because, I was not on it before. My motto is, everything is not for everbody.  I also tend to block out the negative stuff.  In my mind, whatever, I am taking is the best. My question to you is, are you taking Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium? We cannot expect our meds, no matter what we are on to do the whole job. We must replace the vits and minerals. After TT, I suffered severely with pain, cramps and muscle spasms. After I did some research, and started these minerals, WALLA, no more pain and muscle cramps.

Armour thyroid has been wonderful for not only me but also many others on this board.  Keep in mind, we are all different; so to say nobody should try this medication is not really a good reccomendation, in my opinion.  I am sorry to hear you are having challenges; it is no fun to say the least.  I do hope your doctor can get you stabilized in some way.  Take care...
