Armour vs. Levoxyl

I was taking 60mcg of Armour each day from 2004 to 2009.  My new doctor took me off of it claiming my blood tests showed I was "almost" hyperthyroid on it.  I was taking it in conjunction with my BHRT.  Anyway, I have been off since November 2008 and my Free T4 Thyroxine level is now below normal.  This new doctor wants to put me on a low dose of Levoxyl 25 mcg instead of the Armour claiming it is too hard to regulate.  I never had any trouble with it during the 5 years I was taking it.

What do you readers think I should do?  Insist on the Armour or go with the synthetic?

Thanks,
Denise

PS-I say no problems but I did develop a bit of a panic disorder toward the end of my using it, but I still have the panic now and then and I don't take any thyroid meds at this time.  So, not sure they are the reason.

..... but if she said she was having NO trouble on it - then why in heck would she want to switch?

I say if it worked fine and you felt good - then go back on it.

Your "new" doctor is reading your TSH wrong and is basing you soley on that lab.

Armour patients ARE lower on the TSH b/c of that way the med works. He is a dim wad for saying you (they) have trouble with regulation. That's hogwash and your proof of it-

when you say you were fine for 5 years and were just fine!

I say - don't fix what not broke - go right back on it.and tell your doctor to treat with Armour. It is just as good as anyother thyroid meds.

That is absolutely a personal choice, BUT you need to know where your levels are before deciding. You need ALL 3 tests done: TSH, Free T3 and Free T4.
Wouldn't hurt to give the Levoxyl a shot....your dr can always add some T3 medicine in with it if need be.  :)
