Athlete with Low LH?!

Hello,

I am a 26 year old female. I have not had a cycle in +2 years. I am very active, low body fat, intense exercise program and strict diet. Due to recent weight gain, fatigue, cold intolence my OBGYN diagnosed PCOS and Hypothyroid.

I decided to get a second opinion. He tested my LH levels, which were very low. He wants to do an MRI now. I am very nervous and I was wondering if anyone can offer any insight or advice? Has anyone else experienced similar symptoms? Why do I need to get an MRI?!

My TSH is currently went from 2.0 to 3.5 on 50 mcg of snythroid (5th week of meds). In 2008 my LH was 0.5 however I am not sure of the levels from my most recent test.

Thank you.

Thanks for the feedback. What do abnormal levels of T4 and T3 and thyroid antibodies mean?

Low levels of LH and FSH are seen in secondary ovarian failure and indicate a problem with the pituitary or hypothalamus, that's why your  doctor wants a MRI. Your TSH should be target between 0.5 -2.5 when medicated (levothyroxine), perhaps you need to increase your medication. But I think you should also test for free T4 and free T3 and thyroid antibodies .
