thyroid test how accurate

My daughter is 18 has a lot of hyperthyroid symptoms losing weight, hair falling out, gets colds often, insomnia, feels like food getting stuck in throat. She went to Dr they did labs even thyroid antibodies had ultrasound on neck she does have a cyst on thyroid no masses etc but all thyroid labs they say is normal. I'm so stressed and worried about my baby. Is it possible to still have thyroid disease and test be normal? Dr called me with the results said she was shocked that they say normal due to her symptoms and the groiter cyst that she felt

Why did you say hyperthyroid symptoms?  Was that what the doctor said?

Yes, it is very possible to have thyroid problems with normal test results.  That is because the so called "normal" ranges far far too broad to be functional for many people.  I don't really think you need to be so worried.  Thyroid problems are very treatable.  The most important thing is to have a good thyroid doctor.  The doctor saying that she was shocked that results were "normal" in view of her symptoms, makes me wonder if that doctor is going to be what she needs.

If there is any way to get the test results before you go back in Monday, we will be glad to help interpret and prep you for a discussion with the doctor.
