CALCIUM CITRATE AND MAGNESIUM

Hi all,

Could someone confirm how long after taking thyroid can you take your calcium citrate and magnesium?  I am taking this for my bones, but also for heart palpitations as per info from the message boards.  I know you have to wait a certain time after thyroid to take these.  Can someone let me know?

Thanks,
Liz

Yes, thanks all for the advice - I am taking the calcium citrate for the my bones and also was given advicethat it helps with heart palpitations caused during the time my thyroid meds are getting re-adjusted.  I think I will just take them at night.

Thanks.

Take all of your vitamins, b-complex, and vitamin C as far apart as you can from the Synthroid.  Many contain iodine and calcium.

I've been told by many sources that your body will absorb your vitamins better if you take them right before you go to bed - they have longer time in your body before you "flush" them out.

I take two (count 'em 2!) handfuls of meds, vitamins, etc. in the evening and reserve a special place on my nightstand for my Synthroid in the mornings.  All hail the thyroid replacement meds.  :-)

I'm glad I read this post.  I was thinking I had to wait two hours after I take my thyroid med in the morning to take my vitamins and calcium.  I'm new to all this as I've only been on Synthroid four days.

Is it o.k. to take multi-vitamin, b-complex and vitamin c two hours after Synthroid?  Or, should I wait four hours to take everything?

Thanks.

Yes, at least 4 hours apart. Calcium citrate, I know for sure, can interfere with the absorption of thyroid medication.

4 hours is right on the money.  That's why we usually take calcium (and other vitamins/meds) at night and the thyroid meds in the morning.  If you are on calcium for heart problems and need to take it more often (and find the 4 hours impossible to work around) talk to your endo.  The calcium prevents proper absorption of the thyroid meds so your meds may need to be increased as long as you are taking the calcium regime.

Make sense?

At least 4 hours.  Longer, if possible.
