What is the right question to ask re: Parathyroid issues

Thanks for yoru time. I was doing some research on Parathyroid disease and I noted that I have quite a few symptoms, like the majority of them. I am going to ask my endo/internist if he's ever tested my parathyroid. Is there anything specific I should ask or request?

Thanks,
Katie

When I first had hyperparathyroid problems I had many breaks in my feet, ankles, leg and hips.  My blood work was only borderline.  When a skan was finally done my parathyroids were about 100 times larger than normal.

Don't give up, if you must change doctors.

stella5349 (stella5349, you're sweet) is correct.  Those would be the tests to start with.  Also, reading the website recommended would be a place to start getting info.

Keep us posted.

(I hope you don't have parathryoid disease either, it's a pain of an issue.)

Thank you!

ChitChat-- that's great news.

I'm hoping I don't have a parathyroid issue. Thanks to Stella, I know exactly what tests to ask for :)

Thank you both,
K

My parathyroid tests were normal.  I produce calcium oxalate kidney stones and they really were concerned I had high calcium levels but I lucked out [whew] in that area.

Hello

If you suspect parathyroid disease - the way to tell would be to request a serum and ionized calcium blood test. PTH - VIT D and phorsphorus testing is also required.

A member here , Thypaitient - is very informative on this disease and has helped me understand alot.

Another great area to search is the parathyroid.com website.
