Can Hashimotos cause high Hemoglobin counts?

I was diagnosed with hashimotos last February even though I have no thyroid antibodies.  The doctor based it on my low positive ANA of 1:80, my symptoms, and the thyroid tests.  My Thyroids tests were as follows:

Tsh  3.17

Free  T4  0.9
Free  T3   2.5

I also have a high Hemoglobin count of 16 and my Hemaocrit is 47.  I have been tested for Polycythemia with negative results.

What I'm wondering is, is it possible to have hashimotos with these high blood counts?  I thought most people with this disease was anemic?  That's why it doesn't make any sense even though I do have alot of the Hashimotos symptoms.

I take a low dose of Synthroid due to having an angina problem and still have all my symptoms probably because I need to be on a higher dose.  My latest results are as follows.

TSH  2.59

Free T3  3.2

Free T4  1.1

There is some improvement from the last tests, but I still feel bad.  I will be seeing the doctor next week.  Just wondered if anyone has had a high blood count like mine and has Hashimotos.  Thanks,  Terri

Please visit www.*************************, it is a fabulous site and helps with lots of things. I found I may have Hashi's just because of a sore throat- and it is relieved by increasing the iodine supplements and also I found from the testimonies that I could increase my dose (natural raw thyroid, Rx from natural Doc, but he gives me the freedom to find my own dose and report to him, these kinds of docs are hard to find.) By seeing what another thyroid patient reported, I went a head ind increased my thyroid to 6 grains, and now 7.5 grains and feel MUCH better! That is a scary dose according to lots of people including his own staff, but it keeps me functional. I was hating the Alzheimer's like brain fog and forgetting basic words. And the depression and lack of energy. Now I am spontaneously losing weight and that is something I have never been able to do when I tried. I even went on a <500 calorie diet for a year and never went below 170 at 5'3". But suddenly they weigh me at the doc's office and I have lost nearly 20 pounds. I think this thyroid thing has been messed up since childhood, perhaps since birth. I had a sore throat for years during my teens and 20's and the doc's never were able to cure it. Now I think I know is was Hashi's even back then.

Yes, it's possible to have Hashimoto's with the high blood count.  There are many people with Hashi's that are not anemic.  The high Hemoglobin and Hemacrit are probably unrelated to the Hashi's.

What are the reference ranges for your Free T3 and Free T4?  Ranges vary from lab to lab, so must come from your own report.  It looks like you could easily handle an increase in your thyroid medication.
