Can Hyperthyroidism go away?

Hey guys my mom is 42 and she has had Hyperthyroidism from the last two years and the doctor put her on methimazole (5 mg). But from the last six months, the doctor has reduced the dosage down to 2.5 mg and just today she went for her check up and the doctor told her to stop taking the medication and has called her six weeks from now. Her question is that, is it possible that Hyperthyroidism can go away? because she is worried that if she stops taking the medication, the condition will return.

What's your guys' opinion? Thanks!
