Can synthroid (or even too much Thyroid hormone) elavate blood glucose levels?

I've been taking synthroid for mild hypothyroidism, here are my initial labs from late April at diagnosis prior to synthroid:
TSH 3.17
Free T4 1.0 (0.8 to 1.8)
Free T3 3.2 (2.3 to 4.2)

Here are my labs in early June after my a few weeks of 50 mcg synthroid:
TSH 1.22
Free T4 1.2 (0.8 to 1.8)
Free T3 2.7 (2.3 to 4.2)

Now, this morning at work we had some biometic screenings (for insurance purposes) and all my tests (BP, lipids, etc)came back great except blood glucose was a whopping 127! Typically its around 76 to 86 non fasting! And I eat a very low carb diet.
So...my question, could I be overmidicated on Synthroid? I'm scheduled for my next blood test to check levels next week---is this a symptom of HYPERthyroidism.

thanks,

One more thing about the link you sent....that's what my nurse friend said!

Interesting.  I found this:

http://tiredthyroid.com/insulin-resistance.html

However, your FT3 was much higher before starting meds than 6 weeks later.  FT3 was definitely not too high after 6 weeks on meds.  I'll be anxious to see what it is currently.

You might ask to have thyroid antibodies tested as well.  TPOab (thyroid peroxidase antibody) and TGab (thyroglobulin antibody) BOTH have to be tested as some of us are positive for one, some the other and some both.  Perhaps you could ask your doctor to test those before the draw.

First labs are pre synthroid, 2nd labs are after about 6 weeks. No change in the 50 mcg synthroid dose. I get new labs Monday. I've talked to a nurse friend and she said if T3 was elavated too high, that could possibly affect blood glucose. I don't know, but very worried and can't wait to get the labs Monday.  Doc based diagnosis on strong family history of hashimotos and low results. Antibodies weren't done.

My "alert" feeling equated to very clean windows...or anything else I could find to do so I didn't have to try to sit still.

So, the first labs in your initial post are pre-meds?  And, aside from dry skin, you didn't have any symptoms?

Have you ever had antibody testing?

Did your doctor tell you what he was basing his diagnosis on?

goolara---thats the thing. I never had many hypo symptoms to start with. My dry skin has greatly improved, i wasn't overweight, and my weight has remained exactly the same.
Its just these last few weeks that I've been very hungry and craved carbs and sweets and I honestly never had these cravings before. Its almost like I have an unsatiable appetite and I'm not gaining weight. The "alert" feeling I would equate to feeling like I've had a several cups of coffee.
I cant wait to get the labs done to see where I'm at. The spike in my blood sugar really has me concerned. Typically its very low.

It wasn't an Easter egg, was it?  LOL

Although it happens...some of us (myself included) can feel hyper at very low levels (we're comfortable very low in the ranges)...it is unusual to have hyper symptoms with FT4 just a little on the low side, FT3 very low and TSH about "perfect" (for a very imperfect test).

However, the "alert" symptom brings back memories of overmedication for me.

How are your hypo symptoms progressing?

No, no change in meds. Still at 50 mcg. Endo wants me to come in for a blood test to check.
Other symptoms are an increased appetite (no weight gain or loss), craving carbs, difficulty getting agood nights rest, intermittent fatuge, and I feel very "alert".
I only ate an egg---and I'm guessing I should call the FDA if the egg had that much sugar in it! LOL. :)

I assume there was no meds change in June, and you're still on 50 mcg???

Your FT4 was only 40% of range, and 50% is the guideline.  FT3 was only 21%, and the guideline for FT3 is 50+%.  So, I doubt very  much you're hyper (overmedicated).  Any other symptoms.

Elevated blood glucose is not a typical symptom of hyper.  The increased metabolism of hyper usually has the opposite effect.  Did you eat anything unusual before the test?  Have you considered doing a fasting test?
