Could I have Hypothyroidism?

I am a 34 y/o male who for the past few years have been suffering from the following symptoms: fatigue, lack of sex drive, low body temp, low heart rate, etc.,. I just had a hormone workup done and these are the results:

Test Description  Result     Range   Units
Testosterone, Serum   295      241-827   ng/dL
TSH   4.17      0.350-5.500   uIU/mL
Estrone, Serum   43      12-72   pg/mL
DHEA-Sulfate    117      120-520   ug/dL
Prostate Specific Ag, Serum   0.2      0.0-4.0   ng/mL
Beckman (formerly Hybritech) ICMA methodology

Triiodothyronine,Free,Serum   2.7      2.3-4.2   pg/mL
T4,Free(Direct)   1.09      0.61-1.76   ng/dL
% Free Testosterone   2.95      1.50-4.20   %
Testosterone,Free   8.7      5.00-21.00   ng/dL

While my TSH does fall within normal lab ranges for this lab, I have been informed by many that the lab "normal" ranges are out of date and that anything over 3.0 is suggestive of Hypothyroidism. My GP feels that since my #'s fall within the normal lab ranges for this lab, that everything is fine.

Has anybody on here been diagnosed to have hypothyroidism with a TSH level below 5.5?

Thanks in advance for any advice or info any of you can provide.

Thanks for the reply! Where would I go get these new AACE guidelines? I've tried their website but I can't find the guidelines.

You are in a tough position with your doctor. I personally feel very bad when my TSH is above 3.0 and I have hypothyroidism due to RAI. I think it would be best especially since you have family issues with the disease, to get the actual AACE new guidelines and discuss this with your doctor.

MAny physicians do not reconize symptoms as treatment and only go by numbers. If you do not find you are getting anywhere you should find another physician who will listen to you.

It is YOUR health and your life you want to protect -- not a number.

I forgot to add that in addition to my labs and symptoms, both my grandmother and my aunt have hypothyroidism. Additionally, I do have Sero-positive Rheumatoid Arthritis which I know also predisposes a person to have thyroid issues.
