Cysts on the thyroid?

When my daughter was 2 it was discovered that she has 2 cysts on her thyroid, she is now 4. So far her TSH has been fine, however she has not grown or gained weight in the last 5mos. We are being seen by a new endocronologist at the Children's Hospital on Friday, so we'll see what they have to say. She does have several other medical problems, to name a few failure to thrive, developmental delays, GERD. She has a nissen and a g-tube (feeding tube), unknown metabolic disorder and unknown mitochondrial disorder. Other than being a tiny thing, you'd never know anything was wrong with her as long as she doesn't catch a cold. Then we get to stay in the PICU. Anyways, I'm getting side tracked. Has anyone ever had/have or know someone who has cysts on their thyroid? Outcome? Complications? She's been through so much, and I'm really worried that she's got yet another hurdle to jump.

I'm very sorry for your daughter's multiple issues.

"Fluid-filled cavities (cysts) in the thyroid most commonly result from degenerating thyroid adenomas. Often, solid components are mixed with fluid in thyroid cysts. Cysts are usually benign, but they occasionally contain malignant solid components."
http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/thyroid-nodules/ds00491/dsection=causes

Please note that it says "cysts are usually benign".

Has your daughter had other thyroid testing done?  Such as TSH, Free T3 and Free T4?  While TSH is a pituitary hormone and usually only helpful in diagnosis, it can be important.  FT3 and FT4 are the actual thyroid hormones, with FT4 being a storage hormone, which must be converted to FT3 in order to be used at the cellular level.  The thyroid controls metabolism, heart rate, body temperature, etc.  GERD is a very common symptom of a thyroid condition.

If you have test results for any of those, please post them, so members can further assess your daughter's actual thyroid status.  Be sure to include reference ranges with any test results, since ranges vary lab to lab, so must come from her own report.
