DRYNESS

My wife for the last 2 years or so has had major dryness, mouth, ears, eyes and skin, this started with her menopause and since the issues have never got ton any better. She has seen so many specialist and been prescribed so many different combinations of hormone therapy medicines we argue about what she has had and what she should be on.
Nothing gets any better.

It's that external or internal ear dryness?  One of my symptoms of hypothyroidism is excessive ear wax (need to have the wax syringed out from time to time). Ugh! :)

If hormone replacement is not improving the dryness, then Sjogren's syndrome is a possibility.  Sjogren's syndrome is an autoimmune disease where lymphocytes and antibodies attack the body's moisture producing glands.

The two most common symptoms of Sjogren's syndrome are dry eyes and dry mouth but other symptoms can include joint pain, swelling and stiffness, swollen salivary glands, skin rashes or dry skin, vaginal dryness, dry ears, dry nose, persistent dry cough, prolonged fatigue.

"As the majority of people who develop Sjogren's syndrome are female, and because the menopause is the most common time for a diagnosis to be made, doctors believe that estrogen, a female hormone, plays an important role. Possibly falling levels of estrogen might in some way disrupt the immune system, some experts theorize." - excerpt from "What Is Sjogren's Syndrome? What Causes Sjogren's Syndrome?" Have her check Thyroid Disease Symptoms, if she has them, get her thyroid tested, Hypothyroid causes Dry Skin, hair etc make sure she gets the following tests, Tgab, Tpo, TSI, Free T3 Free T4 and TSH The first two are for Autoimmune Hypothyroid (Hashimoto's Thyroiditis) The third is for Hyperthyroid Autoimmune Graves Disease, Free T3 is the active thyroid hormone, Free T4 is the Thyroid Hormone (Pre Conversion) and TSH Is Thyroid Stimulating Hormone. Note: Do not let the MD just do the TSH alone, this is a Piyuitary Hormone, Not a thyroid hormone. If you get these tests completed, request a copy of the results, including the reference ranges with each level, then post them here and members will explain results to you and advise. I would go a different route and try supplements that improve nails, hair and skin. My first trial would be with BioSil, the only bioavailable form of silicon. My daughters and I have used it with good results. We also add one tablespoon of trace minerals to each gallon of our filtered drinking water. I am 83 and have benefited greatly from this regimen.
