Do I need to get a sonogram of my Thyroid?

I have been diagnosed hypothyroid because of a high level of TSH. I have been taking levothyroxin and elevating doses for the last 10 months now and am now at the level of 225mcg. My TSH is now at 62...I go in for labs every 6 weeks and usually it ends up with an increased dose of levothyroxin. BUTTTTT, I have never had my thyroid looked at...Do I need a sonogram or some other visual diagnosis??? Im starting to feel a lump on my right side of my neck justunder the jaw. It seems that the DR. continues to treat with the medicine, but never informs me of my improvements or visa versa.

Doctor should physically (palpitate) you neck/thyroid and if he feels anything off he should  order other test like scan/uptake and/or ultrasound. Has he physically felt your neck, lately(?)

Your thyroid, which is where a nodule/growth, or goiter/swollen or enlarged thyroid, is located just below your Adams apple.

He hasnt palpitated it since the beginning of treatment and didnt feel anything .but this bump is fairly new...I actually just began noticing it this last month or so...This lump  is more to the left of my neck...not the middle...and my right side is normal feeling.

You stated just under your jaw, could be a limp node or cyst(?)

Nodule will be slight off center, not by much and down your neck under Adams Apple.

If you are soon due to see doctor again, request he check it out.
If not and you are concerned about it, make a special appointment to have doctor check it.

It doesn't hurt to ask.  An ultrasound/sonogram is a non-invasive test.  Sometimes if you make yourself a pest enough your doctor will order it just to shut you up.  :-)

My nodules wasn't palpable and was found "accidentally" on a full-body CT scan.  I bugged my regular doctor until he gave in and ordered the ultrasound (even after feeling my thyroid until I was sore stating he couldn't feel anything).

It probably is a lymph node enlargement but it doesn't hurt to ask for an ultrasound just for peace of mind.  Besides, it might be nice to see if there is any "structural" reason why your so very, very hypo despite high doses of medication.
