Does Western Medicine have the answer thyroid issues

Can iodine supplements help regulate thyroid function in a person with hypothyroidism?Answerfrom Todd B. Nippoldt, M.D. Iodine supplements usually aren't necessary if you live in the United States or in most developed countries. Some alternative medicine practitioners recommend iodine tablets or kelp supplements — which are high in iodine — for people with hypothyroidism. It is true that severe iodine deficiency can cause hypothyroidism. But iodine deficiency is rare in the United States and other developed countries since the addition of iodine to salt (iodized salt) and other foods. If iodine deficiency is not the cause of hypothyroidism, then iodine supplements provide no benefit. Hypothyroidism is safely and effectively treated with the synthetic thyroid hormone levothyroxine. Generally, there's no hypothyroidism diet. Although claims about hypothyroidism diets abound, there's no evidence that eating or avoiding certain foods will improve thyroid function. If you have hypothyroidism, take thyroid hormone replacement as directed by your doctor — generally on an empty stomach. It's also important to note that too much dietary fiber can impair the absorption of synthetic thyroid hormone. Certain foods, supplements and medications can have the same effect, including:Walnuts Soybean flour Cottonseed meal Iron supplements or multivitamins containing iron
Calcium supplements Antacids that contain aluminum or magnesium Some ulcer medications, such as sucralfate Some cholesterol-lowering drugs, such as cholestyramine and colestipol To avoid potential interactions, avoid these products or use them several hours before or after you take your thyroid medication. No. The misconception that coconut oil can cure underactive thyroid (hypothyroidism) arose after publication of a book several years ago touting the beneficial effects of coconut oil. However, there is no evidence that coconut oil stimulates thyroid function. ----XXXX The fatty acid chains in coconut oil, known as medium chain fatty acids (MCFAs) or medium chain triglycerides (MCTs), offer wonderful health benefits and are nowhere found more abundantly in nature outside coconut oil. For the Research shows that coconut oil may help those people who suffer from hypothyroidism and slow metabolism .hypothyroid sufferer the MCTs speed up the body's sluggish metabolism and promote weight loss as well.  There are many side effects of a sluggish thyroid gland and the resulting slower metabolism.  First of all, it affects your energy level greatly, and with a slower metabolism and subsequent reduction in activity (and energy) there is often unwanted weight gain. Unfortunately, a person's health is affected as well. Coconut oil can help with a lot of these problems.  Several health problems such as obesity, heart disease, and osteoporosis are more prevalent in those people who have slow metabolism.  Any health condition is made worse if the metabolic rate is slower than normal, because the cells can't heal and repair themselves as quickly.  People with hypothyroidism desperately want to live normal, energetic lives and it is quite possible adding EXTRA VIRGIN coconut oil to your diet will be part of your answer.   signs of thyroid dysfunction.        Tiredness is the most common.  Weight gain i despite proper diet and exercise.Sensitivity to cold. Difficulty in losing weight despite rigid adherence to a low grain diet - especially common in women. You don't perspire (if you're a lady) or you don't sweat (if you're a man)!!  You feel depressed, down or sad.
You are losing hair, especially from the outer part of your eyebrows. You are suffering from impaired memory.suffering from constipation.Your skin could be cold, rough, dry and scaly.Your nails are breaking, splitting or are brittle.Your hair is getting dry and/or tangled.     To be fair, there are studies which have concluded that MCFA do not have an effect on energy levels and endurance.  These studies have drawn this conclusion based on one time dosages of MCFA.  The studies which are cited that show a definite benefit from the *medium chain fatty acid* MCFA are those where the oil was given on a daily basis for a period of time.  Therefore, it appears that for the best benefit a person should consume these medium chain fatty acids on a daily basis.
Besides increasing your energy level, there are other very important benefits that results from boosting your metabolic rate: it helps protect you from illness and speeds healing.  When metabolism is increased, cells function at a higher rate of efficiency.  They heal injuries quicker, old and diseased cells are replaced faster. Young, new cells are generated at an increased rate to replace the worn-out ones.  Even the immune system functions better.  Please goto www.************

Where do you think Synthroid chemicals are extracted? Take the Synthroid and stop dancing around this. Thyroid issues cause multiple organ failure! Iodine is used to kill the thyroid as well, so don't make it worse. See an endocrinologist

We use coconut oil everyday to fry or scramble our eggs in. It's a good product in place of butter or oil and makes the eggs taste yummy.  Good info. Thanks!
