Lenght of appointment depends on the doctor. But a good doctor should spend at least 1/2 hour with you for the first appointment.
Bring all your past test results. Make sure you review them yourself. YOu may even wish to summarise on 1 page the resutls and dates, highlighting the abnormal results, which will make it easier for your new dr. to review.
You may also wish to make a timeline of when your symptoms started, and what you are feeling. Key dates. Keep it fairly concise.
If the Dr. is good, he will appreciate you being prepared.
Best of luck.
Great Thank you, That makes me feel sooooooooo much better. How long is the appointment normally, I have Hypothyroidism and finally got an appointment through. "I have had all the test etc, no issues with lymph nodes, My TSH is generally up and off the chart and my FT3 is always too low. and My T4 works when it feels like it. I swear I need a vaccation or a new body lol!!!
Hi,
Not so different from normal doctor. They should take your weight, and blood pressure. Palpate thyroid. Check if your hands tremble. Detailed history and symptoms.
Then depending on findings they would order blood tests.
If it's thyroid they'd probably check:-
TSH
FT3 & FT4
Antibodies.
Then they may also check:
Fasting blood sugar
Cholesterol
CBC
Vit D, levels? Maybe.
Other test may include ultrasound of thryoid, fine needle biopsy of any lumps....
